Re: Track lighting
This is probably too late to answer your question, but maybe will help someone else in the future.
The easiest way to tell if a fixture is dimmable with a "standard" dimmer is to look at the replacement bulb. A 12v MR16 bulb will generally not be dimmable without an expensive, specialized dimmer. What you want to look for is a fixture using a "GU10" bulb. They look the same at the front, but have larger pins at the back -- and run on line voltage. No transformer, so no dimming problems.
Searching the IKEA website for "GU10" will typically turn up the fixtures that use them -- which doesn't include any true tracks, but a few similar fixtures like TIDIG, LEDING, and TOSTARP.
Home Depot actually has a few good, affordable options under their Hampton Bay brand -- a standard linear track similar to IKEA's SANDA system, and a 120 volt flex track that might sub in well for MAGNESIUM. Again, just search for GU10.
Dimmable 120 volt LED bulbs in GU10 format are just starting to hit the market, as well.
