Does anyone have any pictures of kitchen cabinets that have been used for bathrooms? Or does anyone have any suggestions on which cab. to use and any modifications??
This couple used two over-the-fridge cabinets as floating vanities for undermounted sinks. The photos show the cabinets just after hanging. I think there are other shots in this album of the cabs with the tops cut out for the sinks. They also planned to put a kitchen pantry to the right of the double vanities.
Nicole (aka climbergrl) is a member, and you can find her progress thread on "Silverado Modern." What an amazing house she has!
I hoped to be installing my kitchen cabinet vanities within the next week, but the faucet I ordered arrived today and they had sent the wrong one. Now I wait....
I'm using a 24" base flanked by 2 15" pullouts, in Hallarum. I'm setting them on a 2x4 laid flat instead of legs, because I'm using an above-counter sink and I don't want it too high. If you're retro-fitting a vanity space, you have to take into account that kitchen cabinets are both taller and deeper than a traditional vanity.
I also used Hallarum to put a divider around my bathtub (which sits right in the master bedroom) and additional closets. I love the function of the kitchen cabinets - they make great storage in a bath or bedroom!
i don't have pictures yet cause i haven't done my countertops yet (just plywood till i get around to it) but i LOVE my vanities. I've done my powder room, Master bath and guest bath. Adel MB in the master and Lindingo White in the other two. The extra depth gives so much storage and the height allowed me to do my nifty drawer mod (which susan will someday put in the mods area) where the drawer is mounted at the bottom with doors above (no false drawer fronts for my house!)
And nobody has ever come into my house and said, "boy, are these kitchen cabs?"
Dulci - the Hallarum shortage actually left me with a drawer front and 2 shorter doors to use on the middle 24" base unit in my vanity. I've bought the drawer innards, hoping to use it at the bottom, and didn't realize you had done that. I'm worried about how low the U in the existing plumbing goes, however. That's another reason I'm not using legs - gotta keep this on the down-low. Did you run into any problem with fitting the drawer in? I assume you put a shelf above to cover the drawer. Any problem fitting that?

kathy, first thing to know is only the 6in drawer can be used in this mod (and duh since the largest drawer is already made for the bottom ) and the front has to be turned upside down for the cabinet bottom. i have learned (after doing 6 of these in my house in various places) that it's important to mount the drawer, then the doors and THEN figure out where you want your shelf. i've had to cut a couple of my shelves in order to allow for hinges, not a fun or pretty notch, but still totally usable. And as far as clearance it's easier (by far) in the bathroom than in the kitchen (darned disposers, but i have a single domsjo, so mine worked) since the p-trap is easily manipulated. a couple plumber friends laugh at my under sink mazes, but they work and i still get a lot of storage, i moved my sinks in my master without moving plumbing (except for the p-traps).... i'll have to get my house clean and take "during" photos... maybe sunday.
Thanks Dulci - glad to know I don't have to be afraid of the P-trap! It's not intuitively clear to me why the drawer front has to go upside down, but I trust that will be obvious when I go to install it. If you wouldn't mind checking for me, it would be great to know what row of screws you mounted the bottom drawer slides on.
Amdurant - if you look in the "

" section of this site, under "finished projects" you'll see a nice finished vanity under the bathrooms and bedrooms section. Here's the page: http://www.ikeafans.com/galleries/index.php?c=19
Doorstyle: Lidingo Doors (Kitchen/Bath), Numerar Oak (Waterlox)
We are remodeling our two upstairs bathrooms using IKEA Kitchen cabinets with Lidingo Doors. One of the bathrooms has the cabinets in but we ran into a bit of a snag right before Christmas when
Dh
broke his hand doing some demo work. It has put quite a delay in any progress.
Since these are going into bathrooms intended as secondary or children's bedrooms, we did not install the feet (just the little bun part) and are using some of the decorative IKEA molding (forget the name right now) in the gap instead of toekick. Initially we had it at the kitchen cabinet height but realized that it both felt and looked too high in our space so we brought it down those few extra inches.
We have 2-sink vanities so we were able to fit in two 3-drawer cabinets and two 30" sink bases with a drawer on the bottom (instead of a false front up top). For countertop we are using an inexpensive laminate that we found at our hardware store that is a great compliment to the natural beige hex tiles we have on the floor.
I'll post pics and more details later today.

DH definition
DH usually means Dear Husband (or, pick your own adjective starting with D).
Gwen - I can't wait to see the pictures! Sorry about your hubby's hand. I actually got a stress fracture in my foot last year while remodeling the kitchen, but could never figure out an exact cause. Too much lugging and lifting, I guess.

One 18" four drawer and one 30" over the fridge cabinet with Abstrakt white. I cut down the 18" carcass and filled that little gap at the top with a ripped piece of drawer front. If I wouldn't have been designing this on the fly, I would have had the sense to cut it down by the entire height of one drawer front and used the 6" legs instead of the 4", whereby avoiding the filler, but it worked out ok and having that little extra bit of depth in the top drawer is handy. Ahhh...hindsight.
