Pull out drawer underneath apron front sink?

I went to Ikea yesterday (ferry ride plus drive each way) and spent a lot of time measuring and looking.

I want an undermount Franke apron front fireclay sink 28" wide that fits in a 30" cab. Outside height of sink will be 7 7/8". That would leave 22 1/2" of space below to cover (actual cab height 30 3/8" minus 7 7/8" = 22 1/2"). Could I use a 21" by 30" door front (Adel White) turned horizontally, and make it into a deep drawer? What drawer hardware would I use? Would my carpenter have to adapt it with drilling his own holes?

I'm hoping it wouldn't interfere with plumbing, and be ideal for waste sorting.

Am I ok to do this, or am I missing something? My husband would say a loose screw.....

Of course I would use a narrow filler strip for the gap.

I believe that it's perfectly doable with a 30" deep drawer at the bottom, as long as the plumbing under the sink allows it, of course.

You also need to use ~1/4" thick pieces of filler on each side of the sink cabinet, as the door would be slightly larger than the width of the cabinet when used horizontally (the fillers do not need to be finished, as they would be covered by the door when closed and by the trim around the sink front).

This also assumes that your carpenter would know how to deal with the required holes on the door (2x 3/8" for attaching the drawer rods) and proper screw locations for the front fixing brackets used to attach the front to the drawer.

I think you can find the template for where the screws and holes go somewhere on this site - it should be the same as the 15" or 12" base pullout.

Be careful when using the template, since the door will be wider than the cabinet and the holes will have to be repositioned a few milimeters towards the center of the door (or might as well call it new drawer front) compared to the usual position.

I don't know the exact measurement right now, but all you have to do is compare the difference in size in relation to a regular 30" wide drawer front and move the template towards the center by exactly half of that amount on each side. I hope it makes sense to you.
