So my guys, who keep muttering "cool" under their breath about the drawer "pistons" as they call them, have fixed me up with a little mud-room mod. I get 2 @ 30" drawer units with their top small drawers cut off & a little 18" space in between with shelves. These are set low to the ground to make a "bench" effect. These lowers get topped with a piece of Pronomen countertop (with a bit left over for a lovely cutting board!) and I get upper cabs that I'll paint with chalkboard paint & hooks for coats & book bags underneath.
I hope you can see where I'm going with the picture below . . . on the wall you can't see -- opposite the "benches," there is an 80" tall cab for cleaning supplies & a space next to that for an integrated ironing board (any mod ideas for that??)
"Adel Medium Brown" (not her real name) here pictured settling right in.

I have to say that I'm not sure I love it. But the doors were $4 each & they came in the size I needed. They have been sanded (and sanded & sanded) and then they have primer (and sanded) and a couple (3?) coats of chalkboard paint on them . . .
