calling on the collective wisdom of IKEA Fans!
Background:
I have a base cabinet peninsula that extends from the wall between two windows. The layout required me to reduce the depth of the base cabinets to 21". That's about 1/2" too shallow to allow use of the typical
Rationell
draw dampers that clip to the draw rails.
I have just enough depth to use a standard length drawer. (If it weren't for the rubber adhesive bumpers on the drawer back, there might not have been enough space... it's that close!)
Problem:
When I gently close the door, the closing mechanism seems to really slam it shut through the last half inch of closing. Unfortunately, the reduced cabinet depth (which went pretty smoothly - thanks for various forum advice) precludes use of the intended draw rail dampers.
Proposal for feedback:
Can I use the white, plastic, Rationell door damper on a drawer? I'm wondering if I can mount it to the side of the base cabinet wall, and have it contact the back of the drawer face. Alternatively, I wonder if I could mount it to the bottom of the drawer, and contact the back wall of the cabinet. Note - the back wall of the cabinet is finished with a Perfekt finished cover, so it's quite sturdy.
Has anybody tried anything like this? Thanks in advance for your advice.
