Has anyone find an edge banding that matches Adel Medium Brown?
I am on an island with limited resources and am concerned about buying blind off the net. If anyone can name a known match I would greatly appreciate it!
Petonza - I'm pretty sure you will have to stain edge-banding to match. I just re-did the edges on my Hallarum vanity, and it was quite easy. I bought birch edge-banding at Lowes, removed the old with a hot iron, and applied the new. Then I stained it with General Finishes gel-stain in "Mahogany". It would probably work for Adel Brown too, but for a closer match, search the forums. I think Dulcineak just recently posted a match.
BTW
, if you have the birch colored cabs, it's really easy to remove the existing edge banding. The white edges seem much more fused to the cabinet.
I know for a fact that IKEA actually has edge banding for the Adel MB. We have some in our kitchen! We need more, actually, and we're wanting to find out how to get it!
DH
doesn't remember which box it came in... but he's guessing it came with our 3'x8' cover panel. Anyways, it's a dry sticky surface on one side, so I believe it's meant to be ironed on (DH just glued it on).
I'm wondering if we call IKEA and ask them, if they would know... but I'm just doubtful since I haven't even heard anyone on here acknowledge their existance. But they DO exist!
DH definition
DH usually means Dear Husband (or, pick your own adjective starting with D).
Kath, i need to post in the right spot but the match i created (depends on the wood significantly) was Minwax Ipswitch Pine and then a coat of Minwax Red Mahogany... not exact, but really nice. On pine that is sanded really well (and maybe even conditioned) you can do about 3 coats of the Ipswitch on its own, the Red Mahogany is the darkest part of the Adel....
edge banding comes with the toe kick, and it's only about 14" long... there is no way to buy it separately...
Ah, bummer. Good to know though. I do wonder if it would be worthwhile to buy more toekick just for the edge banding (don't know how much it costs) vs. going to Home Depot and buying the stuff and then trying to stain it. Man, what a pain!
toe kick is like $15 (though i coulda sworn we paid $20)
stain is pretty quick. you could even install it and then stain it in place.... the color doesn't have to be a perfect match, it just has to be darker. i think you could prolly just do the Ipswitch Pine and do two coats
