I have a 36" Kitchenaid Pro Line series cooktop that is very similar to a Viking of the same size. I'm wondering if there is anyone who has experience making the necessary modification to a 36" base cabinet to accomodate this type of cooktop that has all the controls on the front of the cooktop. I would greatly appreciate some advice to guide me through this process.

Re: Help for base cabinet/cooktop modification?
I haven't personally done a midification but wonder if you couldn't use something like the 36" wide Domsjo sink cabinet frame which already has the top part cut out.
I think options might still be open too for doors or drawers underneath. (We have drawers underneath our cooktop and LOVE them!)
Thanks for the tip. I've been scratching my head 'til it aches, and I will look into your suggestion. I'm brand
new to this site
, and I have to say, it is the coolest I feel like I can wipe a liitle sweat off my brow given the wealth of information that appears to be here at IKEAFANS.
I'll be at IKEA this weekend for sure! We don't actually start until the end of May, so we have alittle time to get as prepared as possible.
Thanks again Gwen...

My (limited) experience with cooktops such as yours is that the interior installation dimension is greater than the 34.5" of the IKEA 36" cabinet.
You may need to cut the side gables of the cabinet for the cooktop to fit - and then install two deep 36" drawers underneath. The cabinet itself will be the basic 36" unit. You need to make sure that the mechanicals are at the rear of the cabinet for the drawers to work properly.

Re: Help for base cabinet/cooktop modification?
Depending on your cooktop, you may also be able to get two top working drawers also. This will depend on a number of factors, but you should consider ordering 2 18" drawer kits and the partition just in case.
I've been thinking of ordering the base cabinet that has the 2 drawers and just seeing how it goes. Otherwise I see there is a SBD 36D sink cabinet that already is set up - by the looks of it anyway - to work for this type of cooktop. Then I could go with your idea to add the 2 big drawers which I really want beneath the cooktop. The ideas just keep comin! I love this IKEAFANS site! Thanks!
