I've read some of the threads on pull-out trash solutions. We'll have a 15 inch pull-out next to the sink and I plan to use that for trash. Ideally I'd get two containers in there, one for recycling and one for trash.

I just want to make sure I've got this. We can just have the assemblers leave out the top two "drawers" in the pull-out, locate 2 trash containers that fit and set them in there. Is it really that easy? Or is there something else we need to do. . . .

catherine, it is really that easy if you pick the right size cans

and a note on pull outs in general, only the 12" is sold with a set of interior drawers, all other pull outs you get to pick how many go in there, so there really isn't a "leaving 2 out", and you always have the option of having more than that (for a future project or whatever )

Thank you! I love it when things are easy. So, I guess the 15 inch base pull-out I ordered doesn't have any internal drawers. (Suppose I should've figured that out before I ordered.)

I think the Ikean would have included 2 drawers and 2 Rationell drawer fronts when you asked for a Base Pullout, so you could either return them or perhaps use them in your trash pullout. I have a pretty tall can for pet food and still managed to fit 2 drawers above it.

Thanks! I tried to decipher my order last night, but still wasn't quite sure. Oh well, I guess I'll just be surprised. If there are interior drawers, I think I'll ask the assembler to put one at the top position and hope I can find trash bins to fit under. Seems like it would be handy to store the bags in a drawer above the bins. And I suppose if I can't find them short enough, DH can uninstall the drawer without too much trouble?

yes he can uninstall quite easily. I found my trash cans at target, I have one drawer on top - it works quite well

Hi. I am going through the same thing right now!

We placed a draft order and have a 15" BPO. I wasn't exactly clear what was needed to make it a trash/recycling center, but according to this article it seems like all I need to do is buy trash cans that fit and then take out the drawer(s) above it?

1. If so, does Ikea sell trash cans that work? I read somewhere else the Fibbe ones work but i only see 12" ones

the trash can I use is 19 inches tall, 12 inches wide, and 16 inches across - I don't know who makes it but it is fairly standard. It justs sits on the bottom drawer which you have to install because that is what the door attaches to, that leaves room at the top for one shallow drawer.

Brett you are a genius

You're right she gave me 7 pull out drawers: 2 for the Pull out (I only need 1 as you say), 1 for my regular 15" base with door on bottom, plus 4 more to fit into my 2 30" bases, each takes 2 on top.

With the trash can you use, can you fit 2 i there? I want to have one for trash and one for cans/bottles. You'd think Ikea would make ones that fit!
