I posted a similar question over on "kitchens" but no luck so far. I nearly ordered a 12" cabinet where I only have 6" of room at the end of my island run. I'm ordering Liljestad cabinets...how do I modify a cabinet for this space and what to do about the door?

Thanks so much, I hate to not use any space because this is a very small kitchen area.

The closest to a "door" I can think of would be a 30" oven drawer turned 90 degrees ... and that's 6-1/4" wide (+1/8" clearance needed on each side).

Do you have any pics of the said space? It's almost poitless to have a "real cabinet", since the sidewalls are going to take out 1-1/2" already.

Can you put the area between 2 cabinets instead of on the end and just leave it open (paint the inside maybe- not sure how to make that look nice though)? We have a similar area, but we're just using the wall (covered by a cabinet back) on one side and the adjacent cabinet on the other for the "walls" of the cubby, with toekick for the bottom, but our space is only 3 inches. And we did Nexus birch, so the sides/back panel match.
