James,
You have a lot more patience than I would have had...the post was so not in the spirit of IKEAFANS.

INVALUABLE. We purchased $4K worth of kitchen cabinets for our "first" IKEA experience and without this website it would have been a miserable experience. We were installing 300 miles from the IKEA store. By gathering help info into a document, we were able to have all the tools, screws, etc. ready for our install, which is very important when you are installing in a remote vacation home. Now I am searching for help with PAX installation, have $2K in the trailer ready to make the trip.

Re: What effect has IKEAFANS had on your IKEA Kitchen Experience?

I picked "a lot" but Mucho also applies to some extent. We've done a lot of shopping at Ikea throughout the past 8 years, and I always loved the kitchens there, but was hesitant about actually going with Ikea for our kitchen until I came here to IkeaFans. Although Houston in progressive in many ways, especially some areas, our neighborhood is a bit more traditional, and I thought it would be a poor investment to go with an Ikea kitchen.

NOW, however, I am thrilled!!! that we are going with Ikea. I think it will add tremendous value to our home long-term, especially as more and more people become fiscally conservative and more people see the value of not over-paying by going with HD cabinets. And I love the drawer glides!

The thing that really put me over the edge was a conversation I had with my cousin, whose daughter has been terribly ill due to the toxins in their home, which she traces back to their home remodel many years ago. When I asked her for advice going into the remodel she was very convincing in telling me to very carefully consider every single material and process that happens during the process. So I checked out Ikea's cabinets and feel good about putting them in our home. I'll also be using yolo paints for the same reason. Off-gases scare me! And we spend a lot of time in our home, so it's really important to me that we are safe. Of course, I love the look we're able to do, and the functionality we can afford, thanks to Ikea.

I spend hours a night learning all I can from the other Ikeafans and feel like I'm in good company. Thanks for all y'all do!

Re: What effect has IKEAFANS had on your IKEA Kitchen Experience?

I picked "some" because I had already decided on using many Ikea products in my remodeling - even before they opened the store in Austin ( Round Rock ). I was originally planning to drive to Houston ! This site has been an inspiration, and a guide to what to (and NOT to) do.

Re: What effect has IKEAFANS had on your IKEA Kitchen Experience?

My answer is somewhere between some and mucho, so I averaged it out to a lot. A neighbor's new IKEA kitchen had me leaning strongly towards IKEA, but I had become so frustrated with the planner that I was ready to give up on the idea and go elsewhere. A google search for my problems pointed me here, and when I learned of albertsok's SketchUp models I did end up giving up on the planner, but stuck with IKEA cabinets and learned so many other useful things from this site along the way. So my IKEA purchases (>$5300 before tax) are entirely thanks to this website, but it isn't what got me thinking IKEA in the first place.

My neighbors wish they had known about IKEAfans before their remodel, as they went purely by the planner and didn't know of any customization options, so there are some items in my kitchen that they now wish they had in theirs.

- Will

My question is.. will this poll ever end?

Our local Ikea has an online web based kitchen designer application so you can save the plan and then load it up at Ikea when you get there... nice feature, still needs more products added but still very nicely done.
