Wow! I totally agree with all the comments here. You've done a wonderful job and I'd LOVE to have your photos in teh galleries here, not to mention a before and after article! Are you up for it?
Susan
I would love to do a before and after article. I am sort of new to the board and couldn't quite figure out how to load photos into a gallery.
Also, thank you to everyone for the nice compliments. We couldn't be happier with our cabinetry and I can't praise Ikea enough for making kitchen renovation affordable.
On a side note I am typing this as I watch the New Celebrity Apprentice show on NBC, and just happened to notice that the kitchen is Ikea Linjar blue.
Yippee! The galleries are a bit intimidating at first, but it's really pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Being able to upload 10 at a time in 'sets' makes it fast too! There's a photo tutorial that will help with the basics, though I don't think it's been updated with info about sets....hmmm. Anyway, please feel free to ask questions if you need to.
Once you've uploaded the photos, you can start an article in the Articles area, same as you would a thread and you can drop in your photos as thumbnails by using the My Gallery link on the text editor (it's below the smilies). There are some additional options (like page breaks) and a few fields to fill out, but it's not overly complicated. Again, if you have questions, feel free to ask. I'm probably (ok, certainly) skewed in my view of how difficult it is, so feel free to slap me too.
I'm just so excited about having such beautiful kitchens documented on IKEAFANS!
Susan

The color of the the wood is wenge and it is made out of quarter sewn oak. I am not sure about where the wood came from, we made the design and had a carpenter construct it.
Where did you get flooring? It looks very similar to what I'm getting from Duro Design. It was the only place I could find that color bamboo.
The flooring came from Ifloors.com. I have to tell you up front though that if we did it all over again we wouldn't have used this flooring. Bamboo is hard, almost too hard. There is no give, and anything that touches it actually scratches the clear coat. The fact that it is dark even makes it worse as the scratches turn white. I spend most of the days cleaning them as any foot print is extremely noticeable.
I know it's trendy and looks fabulous in every magazine but to me it isn't too practical. If I did it all over again I would have gone with just a medium colored oak.
Hope this little bit of info helps.
It is soooo fabulous! I am so glad you decided to go your own way and get the IKEA cabinets!! We started out looking at Poggenpohl too and just couldn't bring ourselves to do it. I really love your granite- I haven't seen anything like it before- just perfect.
Congratulations on a very elegant and super smart renovation!! I really hope you do write an article on it!!
I love, love your kitchen, as well as your other changes!
May I ask how high you placed your upper cabinets above the cooktop? I like the way you have an uninterrupted line notwithstanding the hood there, so I was wondering how much clearance that vent required (whatever you have looks nice).
Also, I love the handles you picked for the cabinets.
Regarding the flooring, we also just put in a floor that looks like it is the same color, and it does indeed show dust, footprints, etc fairly easily. Ours is white oak (stained with an ebony/expresso mixed stain), though, and it seems to be resistant to scratching and dings. We finished it with Waterlox rather than polyurethane so that it would be easy to spot touch-up, if necessary.
Regarding Poggenpohl, out of curiosity, do they require a nonrefundable deposit before providing an estmate of the total cost of the project?
Basically the two center cabinets (bottom and top) are useless aside from a little bit of room in the top one, due to the vent system being inside. It is basically hidden. There aren't any height requirement for this vent, since we have set it up to be recirculating rather than venting out.
As for Poggenpohl, they do ask for a deposit up front before doing the design. After we went to Poggenpohl we went to the Expo Design Center, and we were going to do a Kraftmaid laminate kitchen and gave them a non refundable deposit of $800 that was to go towards the purchase of cabinets. After building theirs it turned out to be $13k, and we cut our losses and headed to Ikea.
