Re: Finished kitchen renovation. White Shaker - Before, after, during photos.
Wow!! The kitchen looks fantastic! We're planning a kitchen remodel and this is exactly what I've been considering - getting the cabinet frames, drawers, etc. from Ikea and ordering custom fronts from an online company. I'm so excited to see that it looks so good!
I do have a couple of questions (hope you don't mind me picking your brain!)
1. Interior hinges: did you purchase the "Integral" hinges from Ikea? Did you have the cabinet door company drill the corresponding hinge holes on the cabinet doors?
2. Cabinet door measurements: did you use the exterior cabinet measurements, or did you subtract a small amount to allow for clearance (opening/closing doors)?
3. Were you happy with Scherr's?
Thanks so much for any info you have. Again, congrats on a job well done! - L.

This is an incredible kitchen, just the look that I would like to have. Thanks for letting us drool over it!
Few questions-
1.Can you give an sample of the door price, compare it with the Ikea Adel white door? i.e. for unpainted or painted, approx percentage more or less.
2. Also, how was scherr's able to take into account ikea cabinet holes and restoration hardware hinges? Can they drill for Ikea hinges? What is the lead time for ordering?
3. Where did you get your soapstone? Did they do all the fitting/finishing so that you simply installed it?
Re: Finished kitchen renovation. White Shaker - Before, after, during photos.
THANK YOU for sharing your gorgeous results! And congrats on your savvy shopping!
I've been searching for an alternative to the Adel cabinet fronts for the same reason, and I'm glad to know about Scherr's and your good experience with their products. What was the the reason you went with IKEA cabinet frames instead of Scherr's?
Thanks a bunch for your response. I'm anxiously keeping an eye on this thread!

Reason: clarification
Re: Finished kitchen renovation. White Shaker - Before, after, during photos.
Add me to your list of admirers! I will be renovating my kitchen in October and have been seriously considering Adel White. However, after seeing your gorgeous kitchen am now considering custom doors/drawer. (I hope you consider imitation a form of flattery!)
I, too, hope you would be so kind as to answer a few questions in addition to those listed above:
You said in an earlier post you used Sherwin Williams paint in Semi-Gloss. What was the color? A custom color? What line of paint did you use (i.e. Duration, Coloraccents, ect..)? From the pictures, it doesn't look like there is a cover panel on the cabinets adjacent the range hood so was the paint color matched to the Ikea frames?
What material did you use for the cover panels (dishwasher, refrigerator, oven cabinet), the fillers (right of refrigerator) and toe-kicks? Are they from Ikea? Did you paint them as well?
How wide is your sink? Is it a Rohl? (I love it!) Did you wait until the sink arrived before modifying the sink base? (I read many brands of fireclay sinks are variable in size.) Any issues with installing the sink? Also, would you be willing to share the details around the sink modification (dimensions of cutout)?
Is the small base cabinet to the right of the sink a modification of an Ikea frame?

Oh Absolutely! Anything I can do to help.
1. When you buy Ikea cabinets all you have to do is tell them you want everything except the door and drawer fronts. They know excatly what to do. It's not complicated at all! They know what they are doing and make it very easy for you.
2. I didn't give measurements for the door and drawers because Scherr's have all Ikea measurements, so all you have to do is give them the model number of the cabinet and voila! They come with pre-drilled hinge holes (for a small fee) if you ask for them. I recommend it because it saves a lot of time and stress.
3. Yes!
Thank you very much for your compliments!

Thank you for your compliments! To answer your questions:
1. It's difficult for me to do that because I don't know how much Ikea doors and drawers cost exactly, but I'm guessing the cost is about 30% more. We spent the same amount on Ikea that we spent in Scherr's. They have no problems giving you a quote and they do it quickly, so you can go online and just give them the cabinets you want and they do the rest.
2. I was wondering why someone asked about hinges, and that was my mistake, I meant latches. I did use Ikea hinges which Scherr's can pre-drill the doors for them. Their lead time is about 30 days.
3. We bought our soapstone from a local fabricator. They did the cutting to the specific measurements that I gave them and they also did the edges. We did the rest. We almost went with Soapstone Kitchen Countertops : Soapstone Sinks Tile :: M Teixeira Soapstone they have very good prices and you can always take advantage of their specials. When you ask for a quote just tell them what special you want them to apply, otherwise they won't do it.
I hope this helps!

I'm so glad we are helping. If it wasn't for this website we wouldn't have been able to do our dream kitchen.
We went with Ikea frames because the total price was a lot less than if we went with Scherr's. And Ikea makes everything so simple, assembly was a breeze, I did it all myself while my husband did other things. You also get a lot more for a lot less, for example, soft closing drawers costs 4x times more or even more anywhere else, it's a very expensive upgrade.

Thank you!!
That is very flattering indeed! Thank you!
1. We used Preprite Primer and Proclassics Waterborne Interior Latex Enamel, the color we chose was Pure White. If there's a difference in color to Ikea's you can't tell. It looks very very good. Scherr's price for painting was a little too much, but I discovered that locals can do the job for A LOT less, which is a good alternative, if you don't want to paint them yourself.
2. We used cover panels, toe-kicks and fillers (same as toe-kicks) from Ikea. And we didn't have to paint them. The cover panels (they have 2 or 3 different whites to choose from, we chose the whiter one) are almost the same color as the Pure White, but if I wasn't such a perfectionist I would say they are the same. We ordered decorative panels for the Island and the exposed side of the Dishwasher so we didn't use a lot cover panels for exposed sides.
3. Yes, it's a Rohl. It's one of my favorite things in my kitchen. It's 30" wide, and although measurements are pretty exact, you should definatelly wait until you have it to make your cabinet modifications. We ordered the doors one inch less than the space left and we did a "face". I'll take pictures and post them. But we had no issues with it.
4. Yes,it was a modification. We bought a 12" base cabinet and cut it to make it a 6". Modifying cabinets is very very easy. You simply cut the botton part and the 2 pieces at the top.
You are welcome!!!
