I am truly saddened to have found out about ikeafans.com AFTER my new kitchen was installed. It would have saved a lot of time and trial and error!
Anyhow, here is my Abstrakt white kitchen. It is a small kitchen - 6 x 9 feet. The countertop is Silestone White Zeus and the glass tiles on the backsplash an ebay bargain at $9 per sq. ft. The doors on the corner base cabinet were incorrectly shipped in black instead of white. Since the kitchen is in the island of Puerto Rico, going back to the Paramus store to change the doors was not an option. Instead, I took the black doors to a car repair shop and got them painted in white. The shine of car paint is almost identical to Abstrakt's shine!

Call IKEA and see if they will ship the correct door to you, they often do. And then you'll have a match. Your fix was very creative, though!

It looks great and sterile. (I use sterile in a positive way; I like to think I'm cooking in a completely new kitchen every day, and you'll never get that with one of those warm, earthy farmhouse kitchens.)

Now that you've had a few months to live with the cabinets, how has the paint job held up? Someone was asking abut the durability of high gloss paint jobs on doors a few days ago, made me think of this thread .

18 months after installation, the paint has held on wonderfully, considering that the tropical climate here is very harsh and that my apartment is close to the ocean. Warm salt air is one of the most damaging elements in the tropics, it will eat its way around paint, wood, metal and will even discolor plastic. So far no sign of damage on the cabient doors! When the time comes to refinish the cabinet doors, I will definitely take them to the car paint shop!
