One year ago with purchased a forclosure home with the original cabinets built in 1960. The kitchen was complete with blue walls, blue trim, and curled up blue vinyl tiles on the floor.
One year later, we finally have a usable kitchen (we did ALL of the remodel work ourselves, and it was very SLOW). We still have to install the handles and several detail things, but it's close!
It's been so long, we don't remember how to cook with an actual stove. It's been microwave meals and a lot of eating out for a whole year. The fact that everything in my kitchen is working has not sunk in yet. I will post pictures of the refrigerator/pantry wall next.
WOW! What a transformation! I LOVE the red in your new kitchen, especially with the bright white.
I can completely relate to not remembering how to cook and being in shock over the working functional kitchen (we just got ours back on Friday)
It's beautiful, congratulations!

Thank you stacylu! Did you cook anything special your first working kitchen weekend? I feel like I should do something dramatic to make it sink in.
I'm glad you like the red paint- we loved the Abstrakt red, but the price and the thought of looking at the cabinets 5-10 years from now scared us away. So, white cabinets with glossy red paint was our happy medium.
I cooked all day Saturday (and washed a ton and put away a ton)... The menu is in my progreess blog somewhere with links to recipes but it was
Crab stuffed mushrooms (lunch/appetizers)
Parmesan crusted scallops (for DH)
Chicken Cordon Bleu
Pan roasted broccoli
Baked potatoes (which ended up getting dropped because there was just too much food)
Peaches and cream pie
Bottle of champagne
It was so much fun and spending all that time in there made the finishedstatus "real". (even though we're not really done yet) So I highly recommend going all out for one dinnner to kickstart things back off.

kabels, what a transformation! Love the red with the white, and I particularly like the Aviskt cabinets. They look great. Your open display wall cabs. really add drama to the kitchen.
Your kitchen is beautiful--the color combination is really wonderful. Your original kitchen (minus the scalloped edging) reminds me of my now-nonexistent cabinet.
