Could you please take more pictures of how you raised the dishwasher? I will have to do the same thing.
It was a simple 2x4 frame, with two of them stacked on top of the others to allow for the snaking of the hoses, etc...if I get a chance I'll take a pic, but it wasa quick and dirty solution....here is a picture of the front. I covered the 2x4's with a piece of birch plywood. Its not even screwed in placed and stays put fine. I'll see if I can get a pic underneath sometime. on either side of the unit I have two end panels, which enclosed the sides. I think the edges of the end panels give a more finished look. They are screwed in from the inside of the drawer cabinet to the right and the inside of the double oven cabinet to the left...

Very nice! Was there anything special needed for plumbing and electric with cabinets on raised legs?

Also - where did you get the wine bottle holder?

Liz
The plumbing and electrical goes through the floor of the cabinets and then through the floor of the....well...floor. In some areas where this was exposed I boxed it in with scrap pieces of birch, or you could use a piece of large pvc painted. I thought it might be visually obvious, but you really have to lay on the floor to see it...the piping under the peninsula is not even visible from down the hall. You could also have your electrician run metal conduit between cabinet and floor instead of the standard wire...

As for the wine bottle holder.....IKEA, of course! Two units stacked on top of each other...

Just lovely! I would kill to have that beautiful old exposed brick in my house. The whole kitchen is so welcoming and the blue paint is fabulous.

I also wanted to say how I love the mix of more modern and traditional elements and that it makes your kitchen really, special. The windows, brick and old wide trims are the perfect foil to the sleek kitchen...are you listening fisheggs?

nice work!

Very nice job! That blue looks fantastic with the birch. I love the cooktop cabinet run, they look great raised on the Capita legs. And very clever to use the recess next to the chimney for the fridge! I've never seen a laundry chute in the kitchen before, that's pretty cool. How does it work? Is it just a door over the opening to the chute?

I love how you incorporated the brick too, and your floor is just lovely.
Thanks for your generous comments. The laundry chute was existing and, rather than cover it up, I used and Adel door to cover the portion between the upper and lower cabinets....down go the towels...

Also, may I ask what type of wood are your floors? They look great!

I'm with splatgirl re: the brick. That, and the hardwood flooring give the kitchen a character, and you have worked with it with excellent results. The kitchen is beautiful, and seems to have packed a lot into a not enormous space.

Congrats!

Thanks! The floor was not perfect when we pulled up the old vinyl floor...but we preferred that to look or expense of a new floor...the contractor wanted to rip it up. The space you see in the picture of the side of the broomcloset and pantry cabinet used to be a bathroom with tile floor! That window int he picture was in the bathroom. We moved the bath over to where the butler's pantry used to be and added the space to the kitchen...you can see we had to piece in the old pieces of wood harvested elsewhere. It required knowcking down a wall and putting in a header.

And it's obvious to me why. That 'aged' look just fits that old brick wall to a 'T'. I hadn't noticed the 'patch' for the old bathroom floor, nice job!

The floors are the existing fir floors in our house, straight-grained and a rich color, but not as hard as Oak or Maple. The house is a 1906 Dutch Colonial on Narragansett Bay...well, you can see the bay at the end of our street anyway.

Looks great! I can just see me at your counter waiting for some pizza to come out of the oven. Hey how about I come over and bring the family? We could have a great party. I could be there next week if you provide the details or you could just pick us up at the airport!

Great kitchen! Nice job. Can't wait to see it!
