I think (I hope) I have posted the link to my kitchen remodel. I redid a 1972 kitchen with Ikea Stat yellow cabinets. (It's really too bad they are discontinuuing these...they are a beautiful soft butter yellow).I assembled the cabs, hubby and friends, relatives demo'd old kitchen and I hired a contractor to hang cabs and for everything else. I think we accomplished our goal of lightening up the dark 70's look. Still have some pics to hang and finishing touches but for the most part it is done.
I have to tell you how grateful I am that I found this site which was invaluable for my Ikea experience. You are all a fabulous help and wonderful encouragement and inspiration! Thank you and even though my kitchen is done ( well...mostly)...I hope I can hang around...you are all like friends and I anxiously await to see your new Ikea kitchens and maybe offer a word of advice or encouragement!
Debbie! FANTASTIC! What a trasformation! How nice is it to have the cooktop in an accesible location? Wow!
I'm in the process of upgrading the Fansite, but I do want to use your pictures when I launch the overhauled site. Before and After?
Thanks for posting Debbie!
Susan

I'm not a huge fan of yellow but I may reconsider that stance. ILOVE the red with the yellow cabinets (and I love all your rooster stuff) Congratulations on a great job!

Me too - love the red walls with the yellow cabs. What a great contrast! The whole place looks fantastic. What a great before and after! Worthy of HGTV or TLC (I'm a sucker for all those shows).
Congrats to you!
Debbie - What a terrific job you did! You really did have the quintessential 70's kitchen, and now you have perfection. If you're like me, you'll love that fridge wall with all the pantry space. (I pat myself on the back often for that choice!) I love the red and yellow together, and I'm glad you got to use your neat knobs. Enjoy it!
Love the change! It looks so warm and inviting now.
I do have one questions. We are planning a peninsula very similar to yours. I noticed you did not use a corner cab but rather put a 24" base cab facing the dining room. How much space did you add between it and the other base cabs to accommodate knobs and drawers opening?
The pull out at the end of the peninsula, is thatfor trash or recyclable? If so, what did you use for containers and how tall were there? I am hoping to do that and still accommodate a shallow drawer on top.
Garden of Darwin - the consolidation of the cooktop, wall oven and microwave intoa stove with a microhood has gained me a lot of counter space. Of course you can use my pics...my redo isn't as sophisticated and modern as lots of the redos here, but it may show others that don't, like I originally did, think acountry/cottage feel is possible using the modern Ikea cabs, that itcan be achieved.
stacylu - My dad commented when he saw my kitchen that he was having a hard time envisioning my "yellow" cabs when I was talking about them, but he loves it. I edited alot of the rooster stuff, but I've been collecting it for almost 30 years (before French country was in style) and I just have to have them!!!
BarbaraK - HGTV, TLC - I'm addicted!! Thanks for the compliment!
Evaperconti - I am enjoying my new bright kitchen every day!
kmcg - Yes, I am enjoying my pantries! In retrospect, I may have considered using the pullout one to the right of my fridge ( I have the regular doors with the wire pullouts) because I decided to put the hinges on the left side of that door so I could have the adjacentcounter for landing space when removing items orunloading groceries into it. It doesn't quite open all the way (would hit the fridge) but it opens enough so I can use the slide out baskets. Also, I wish I had paid more attention to your "lessons learned" about using the 15" vs the 24" over the fridge cabinet with the pantries. I used the 24" and had to raise all my wall and base cabinets. Cons - had to fabricate new 7" toekicks and couldn't use my crown molding. Pros - I have 39" high counters and I love them! No more backaches standing at sink or counter! And you don't know how thrilled I was to be able to use those knobs I dragged across the Pacific!
Tudi - The Stat yellow scared me...even though I was able to check it out at my Ikea...they didn't have a whole kitchen of it. It was a good compromise cuz my husband wanted white and I thought that would be too stark with all our dark woodwork. I was a bit worried for resale value too, but decided the Ikea doors could be changed out if necessary. I love it and last month This Old HOuse magazine had a yellow kitchen on the front.
Shadowcat - I did make an error in my peninsula. On the sink wall I put a 4" filler to the right of the dishwasher before I turned the corner for the peninsula...but I neglected to put any filler after the 90 degree corner. So my dishwasherhad to bea bit recessed, the contractor managed to put a 3/4" piece in before my 36" drawer, but I have to make sure the dishwasher is latched closedbefore I open those drawers so they will clear the DW. Correspondingly, I didn't put any filler next to the wall on the backside of the peninsula for my 24" base cab...luckily the wall next to it is new and straight so it doesn't impact it too much, but I can't open the right door to it's full swing. To correct that I should have put at least a2" fillernext to the wall and also another 2" fillerbefore my 36" base drawer unit on the kitchen side. Those are the kind of things that I didn't forsee...I wish my contractor had noticed them and we could have fixed it before they were installed. But he is not a kitchen designer. Iused the 37" lazy susanin the other corner, but would have had to use the 49" one in the peninsula corner and I didn't like the way it opened so that's whyI used the cabinet facing the dining area on the backside of the peninsula (which was what they did in the old kitchen.)
The 15" base pullout is my trash drawer...I use a 45 qt. can that is 1'10" high (might be able to use 2 smaller ones) and I canstore the box of trash liners behind it. I measured my other 12" base pullout (to the left of the stove) that has the 3 pullout drawers and I could fit a drawer above my garbage can. Have to check out the 'as is' section next time I go to Ikea. For the trash pullout I ordered the 15" pullout without the 2 drawers.
