On this job the contractor would rather not get involved with the Ikea cabinets, soour help was enlistedfor shopping, assembly and installation of the kitchen cabinets.
Nothing like a nice and clean space to start with:
Andnow it was time to bring in the microwave oven in order to cut the shelf to the proper size when we realized that it was close to 24" wide and consequentially there was no way that it would fit inside the cabinet.
But then we also noticed that the microwave could also be undermounted toa wall cabinet according to the manual, so one solution was to cut part of the cabinet in a way that the oven could be mounted flush with the bottom of the adjacent cabinets and there should also be a door available for the size of the cabinet on top.
The best solution would be a 18" tall cabinet, but unfortunately that would cover the outlet were the microwave would be plugged in.
So the final solution was to leave it at 15" tall and cover the remaining space under the front of the micwowave with a piece of toeckick, wich turned out to be the right size.
Another issue was the sink cabinet, which was not "centered" enough in relation to the big window, so we moved it 3" to the right and put a spacer between the cabinets.
There was also the heater duct on the way of one of the 24" base cabinet's legs, so it was moved towards the center of the cabinet.
It looks great! I love the built in effect you have with the microwave. That was a great modification. Congratulations and I'm looking forward to more pictures!

The microwave was an issue that in the end turned out to be easier to resolve than I expected at first.
Paul wanted the birch from the cabinet frames to show as little as possible and if we had used the original Ikea MW shelf it would have made it a lot more difficult to get a decent result.

You seem to have less of your cabinet boxes showing below the doors of your upper cabinets than I do - did you use edgebanding or do I just need to adjustmy doors?
Also, I'm curious about the base cabinet to the left of the range - does that counter wrap around the wall there?
No edge banding was used. It's more like a combination of lighting and door adjustment.
The countertop does not wrap around the wall (it's more like an "L" rather than a "U"); it has just a small overhang on the back of that cabinet. The cabinet is 18" wide, with about 16" of the back exposed to the other room.
