After installing our Ikea cabinets nearly 4 years ago, we finally got around to the backsplash and got some new appliances. We took a break from the kitchen for a while to complete the basement. Now we are back up to the first floor to continue our work. Only one more thing to do in the kitchen - get a new sink!

Susan - the kitchen has held up very well over the past 4 years. My only complaint are the fragile little plastic clips that hold on the toe kick panels. We have broken several of those but I have many leftover. The countertops are probably due for some re-sanding and more oil & beeswax. Now we kind of regret not going with white for the cabinets but the Duvbo gray is OK with us. Eventually we'll upgrade the countertops to something nicer.
Since then we bought the tile for the backsplash over a year ago and just finally installed it last week. We replaced our old appliances with GE. The range is the Cafe series, the fridge & dishwasher are GE Profile series. The new range is awesome! I can't believe we cooked on that old Frigidaire for 8 years! Now we have high-power burners that are essential for Chinese cooking. The range hood will need replaced soon with a model designed for the power burners close to the front. Other than that we are looking at a white Kohler cast-iron sink and a bronze Delta faucet.
You're right - we still owe y'all some recipes. We are making hot boiled beef this week so I'll try to get that documented. I have photos from our Chinese beef noodles that I can post sometime along with the recipe.
Seriously! Projects take so long! I thought I could have a clean well-organized home that didn't have 20,000 lbs of flat pack in the living room, but alas, no. It's back.
