Argh! I lost my whole babble of a post b/c my attachment was too large and when I went back. poof. text was all gone. How annoying. I will re-cap.
We are building a timberframe home and are about 1/2 way done. I decided it was time to start sharing with you all our kitchen progress. We are going with Fagerland doors, but we are painting them an Antique Pewter from Old Village Paint (http://www.old-village.com/) and the counter tops will be either Numerar birch or oak.
And here is the door I bought in the As-Is section to experiment on painting. I just used a primer and then latex paint. We will use a sprayer when we do all the doors. I will go with the birch interior.
Haven't decided on hardware yet, but it will be something simple. PLease ignore the purple/blue drywall!!
This is a view of the future kitchen. At the end where they have not cut in the casement window yet, I am going to do a benched in breakfast nook. To the right of the kitchen is the living room and dining room. The fireplace that you will see in the next photo has french doors on either side and leads out to our screened in porch with an outside fireplace.
I will work on my current design again and post it so I can get feedback. One thing I am trying to figure out with the beams that will be showing on the long wall is whether to do cabinets or just open shelving. Because of the wood beam structure I will not be able to have a smooth flow of upper cabinets between those windows. It might look funny. At this point I am leaning towards open shelves along there.
Truly a "dream come true" home. I saw a kitchen that was done with a very similar color on their cabinets. But, it leaned to a slight grey/blue color. Also, I have one in my "folder of favorite kitchens" that has a huge open kitchen with barn red cabinets and a very similar color to yours for their large island. It looked wonderful together. I can't wait to see all the pictures of your progress.
Dana -- I love your house! Thanks so much for posting your pictures -- I love your painted Fagerland door! I saw a pewter kitchen that was most gorgeous, so I can't wait to see yours all done.
It wasn't like - bright red - they had rubbed a dark color into the red of the cabinets so it wasn't bright. Upon closer inspection you could see a somewhat black color running through them very-slightly. Had beautiful darker hardwood flooring, with a big 48" range and hood, a wall cabinet with glass on either side of hood and then two big (about 5 ft. each) windows on either side of those cabinets. The range was the focal point. But, all the light from the windows was great.
Whatever you decide to do, looks like you'll have plenty of room and ceiling height for it.
