Re: It's finished! My new Ikea kitchen (with pictures)
Yes please post some pics when you have time, I would love to see them!
I really do think that art can brighten up any room. I paint most of my paintings. I love original works of art.
I turned my hallway into a mini gallery with cool track lighting that I bought at Ikea a few years ago.
I found that searching painted art on ebay you can really get some really cheap original art works, that match any bodies style! I bought a painting for only $35!!! And everyone thinks I paid at least $300 for it!!
But most of them comes on the canvas so you have to stretch it and staple it yourself to the frames. But still you will save a lot of money, during it that way.
I really like your layout of your house. Love those stairs to!!

jack actually doesn't hang out here much, this blog was from Nov 2006. the column you're referring to seems to be duct work. if i'm looking at what you're talking about.

Thank-You very much, Cleopatraa25.
The stainless steel column is just a wiring closet as I removed the wall between the kitchen and adjacent area and had to place somewhere 20 or so electrical cables (most cables in my home).
The steel column consists of two pieces like letter "U" but with square corners.
These two pieces "embrace" the column which is made of plywood.
It cost me less than $200 (Canadian dollars) to make it by a local metal fabrication shop. I used stainless and intentionally visible screws to attach the pieces to the column as I wanted to create a bit "industrial" look of it and somewhat better visual composition.
Re: It's finished! My new Ikea kitchen (with pictures)...got my kitchen, new style of lazy susan
Okay, I'm jealous and feeling overwhelmed. I made my purchase this past week while visiting family in Ottawa, ON. 20 cabinets with hardware amounted to 191 separate packages. Haven't put pulls or anything else...just cabinets. $6400 of cabs + taxes (13%)...although I did get $600 in gift certificates that will probably go toward the double domsjo sink and pulls, interior drawer partitions...
Right now, my garage is stacked with flatpacks, with most of my drawers and a few doors that I couldn't fit into my truck still in Ottawa 5 hours away but i will be there on vacation in a couple of weeks to pick them up.
for the record, the Ottawa store is one of the smallest Ikeas and only 4 or so kitchen displays, all very small kitchens unlike what I saw at the Vaughn store just north of Toronto. However, they had every single piece there...well actually the warehouse as a one minute drive down the road. The staff were very helpful, especially the woman who does the final input of the order, very understanding of my modifications, helpful suggestions, very professional. I know a lot of folks on this site have spoke about rude, unknowledgeable ikea staff, but this was not my experience at the Ottawa location.
By the way, the just updated the lazy suzan for the lower corner cab. I haven't opened the box but instead of just a wire lazy susan...which resulted in many complaints about small items such as measuring spoons falling in through and getting stuck, the "floor" of the lazy susan is solid, with wire "walls" around it....no change in price.
I think I found where I will buy all our lights...Rona (a Quebec Canadian version of the Home Depot sort of place)...really good prices on a nice selection of pendant lights for the island.
