Next, the pantry unit was cut down to 18 3/4" depth. This was done with a circular saw and a good straight-edge. I figured out the depth that had to be cut from each piece and simply took that amount off of each piece (sides, top/bottom, stability shelves, normal shelves). This worked great. Then on the frame pieces, I had to use the table saw to recreate the recessed back where the fiberboard backing sits. This was a bit of a pain since I didn't take enough off on the top/bottom (aka set my circular saw too low), so the fiberboard wouldn't fit, so I had to manually chisel out more. A pain, but easier than taking the whole unit apart.
Quick action shot of the table saw; note how close the fence is set to the blade, in order to get the proper depth cutout for the backing piece.
Pantry unit in place
Next the whole unit was bolted together and doors added. Fridge (with ugly coating still attached) was thrown in for some action shots.
Finally all the "bits and pieces" were done:
-Cover panels (about a bajillion, and all were custom due to random depth of the unit
- Deco strip filler was put beside fridge (due to 33" fridge and 36" cabinet).
- Undercab lighting was done, etc.
All in all I think it looks great even though its missing plinth + cornice still. Was a lot of work with all the customization that had to be done, but that nice looking bottle of Bailey's will help smooth the edge.....
