Question wood flooring

Has anyone dealt with Lumber Liquidators? They seem to have very good prices and decent selection -- is there a catch? Are their products good stuff that's truly just being liquidated, or do they sell bottom of the line stuff that won't install well or hold up well?

Re: wood flooring

I'm seriously considering buying from them, and have looked over their samples in the store. Based on samples, the quality looks good. But then I'm no expert, either. On another home improvement forum, I've seen lots of rants about poor customer service, but have also seen raves about the product and price. One thing to be careful about is that I believe they don't allow returns.

Re: wood flooring

When my sister did her flooring, she got it from there. Most of their stuff are indeed closeouts/discontinued products, so make sure you have enough + spares.

As usual, get as much as you can out of the same production lot.

Re: wood flooring

My only experience was going to the tiny store in LA. There was a line out the door and a lot of people trying to keep their cool.

The product samples did look good, but it seems like a DIY kind of place. Not a place you'd have your hand held and get a fresh cup of coffee when you enter.

The prices are amazing and hard to beat. I'm thinking of buying their $0.99 sq/ft cork for our attic when we finally get around to ripping out the carpet up there.

Oh yes, that too. You better know the pros and cons yourself and what is what, because you're not going to get much help from them. Their staff is "order taker" and "warehouse", not "sales".

Re: wood flooring

I bought both my countertop (Maple Butcher Block) and my flooring (Brazilian Cherry Light) at LL. It's definitely not a customer service kind of place, but I've had no trouble at all with the product. My countertops have held up beautifully, and I love love love my floors.

I went on a weekday when it was not so crazy and the guy there was happy to answer my questions, but it's definitely not a high service kind of place. Kind of like IKEA in that way, I guess.

Re: wood flooring

I was a skeptic until some family members (recently) purchased and installed several hundred square feet from LL.

They had a few warped boards but the overall quality was actually really good for the money.

Re: wood flooring

My wife and I went to Lumber Liquidators in Lorton/Springfield, VA 2 weekends ago and dealt with a salesman named Mike. He was very helpful, and spent about 1/2 an hour with us discussing various flooring options. No pressure, no rush, just good info. We'll probably be going with them for our order.
