Hi ERock :-) The sink is installed and functional even though the counter is just plywood/cement board. I can try to take a picture and post it – I’ve not done that yet. :-)
OrangeMonkey – Very interesting what CR has to say about SS. I usually seek their advice before making purchases but it didn’t even cross my mind to do so for a sink. I’m glad to know the less expensive sinks are every bit as good as the more expensive ones. :-)
Very interesting! Thank you. I am surprised that they concluded that thicker isn't better.
The CB sinks look good but 11 inches will be too deep for me -- I was looking at 8" though with Blanco, but the 9" of the Sienna seems like a good compromise. For noise, the Sienna sinks have the coating and the padding. I think we're all on the right track here (if saving money is a goal...)!
I am surprised that they concluded that thicker isn't better.
As I see it, thicker doesn't make a difference with regards to wear.
Common sense still says that SS thickness does matter in resistance to dings/dents and noise transmission. Dampening pads isn't the cure-all for thinner metal.
It seems like a good price; it's the size and depth I'm looking for at a decent price.
Orange Monkey - thanks for the information from CR. Like Jeri, I usually do check them out on larger purchases (part of what turned us onto IKEA in the first place was CR's review of their cabinets), but didn't even think to look for their advice on sinks. Makes me feel a little better about looking to save money in this area...
Wow, that Overstock sink is a great find - awesome deal, I'm jealous!
Yep, it is totally counterintuitive but CR said that you'd think a thick sink would be quieter and less dent-prone but that they both silenced noise and resisted dents similarly.
CR's online site has a whole section on home improvement. They weigh in on countertops, bathroom sinks, floors, windows, toilets, faucets, etc.
I am still recooperating after seeing the prices for undermount sinks at Home Depot and Lowe's. Has anyone actually purchased their sink online? What kind of deals are out there?
Maybe I'm just being incredibly cheap - or naive - about the cost of a sink, but I'd like to at least find out if there are other options out there...
HI Maggie
I just purchased a sink online thru Affinity Surfaces - Sierra Acrylic Sinks and it is due to arrive soon. Stainless singles and doubles. I'm no where close to the install yet but planning ahead. Good luck, check it out

I am trying so hard to control costs, which means controlling my brand fixations (which are partly attributable to snobbery, sadly).
Erock, If you were really a band-name snob you so wouldn't be HERE! IKEA I think is getting the name of being the smart buy, but hasn't yet achieved "luxury brand" status...
Brands are about a lot of things- and not to put too fine a point on it- they are a shorthand for value (whatever bundle of properties that is, from physical to intangible). For a lot of us here we like the style acheived by some brands- which they develop with designers paid for by the margin their brand allows. But there aren't too many here who aren't thrilled to get high style, good quality at a bargain price- brand or no brand.
On the other hand, I certainly get the issue with consumerism which is something I've been thinking about a lot personally. What does one really need? Where is the balance between spending to satisfy some consumeristic need and not being entirely joyless about it all (which seems to me to be investing the item with just as much power as the former)? I find I can wait out just about any consumerist desire (which doesn't mean that I won't obsess about it in the meantime!).
So, sorry, returning to the point of the thread...so how about them sinks?
