We live in Northern Virginia (just outside Washington, DC), and are redoing our kitchen. We spoke with Cabinet Discounters in Chantilly, but were turned off by the salesperson who seemed to look down his nose at us because we are doing the cabinets ourselves. We looked at a few other places (Plan-it Granite, Dominion Granite, and others), but their prices were pretty high compared to Cabinet Discounters. We were about to suck it up and go back to CD when we stumbled across The Countertop Company (
The Countertop Company). Their salesman in their Tyson's Corner store was very helpful and patient. I gave him some print-outs from Ikea's Planner, which had some wrong measurements on them (bug in the software when using wall cabinets as base cabinets), and he handled everything in stride. We even had a few odd requests (like giving us alternative pricing based on whether or not we redid the bathroom, and whether we included an accent shelf on a "knee wall"), but they didn't phase him. He even came back with a price that was on par with Cabinet Discounters. We're getting approximately 50 sq ft of tan/brown granite countertops for about $3300 (I'll edit this when I get home to give more exact numbers), including 1/2 bullnose edging, a sink cut-out and one for a cooktop, plus 4" "backsplash" behind most of the countertop.
We still don't have the countertops (haven't even started the demo process yet!), but so far we're pleased with them. I'll also try to remember to update this thread once we're done the install process, to let everyone know our final impressions.
Hope this is helpful to others!
