Placing order tonight in store; any tips?

Do they ever have all of the cabinets in stock? Or do you have to wait?

Is there anything I should make sure to ask for or do they pretty much know what they're doing?

Bring a clipboard and be ready to inventory everything on the spot. Ask for an extra cart to move pieces on to as you go so you can count everything! There may be duplicates and may be omissions. I had both.

Bring at least one other person - many of the pieces are quite heavy and you may need to work around the yellow metal railings in the loading area. Not fun. I had my 9 and 11 year olds to help me get things over or under the rails and into the car, and DH helping out when we got stuff home.

Slack time seems to be 4-5:30 pm - after the stroller crowd leaves and before the after work crowd hits.

Prepare a space or spaces in your home for the onslaught. You may want to put stickers on everything as you bring it in (e.g. address lables or "hello my name is") because the boxes have numbers and tiny pics, but no "hello my name is 36" base cabinet frame" in sight.

If you are ordering from your plan, make sure you have enough toekick material for your toekick and for your filler pieces, and enough crown molding and side molding if you are going to use it. For reasons unknown, these don't seem to end up in the manifest as printed.

Re: Placing order tonight in store; any tips?

Note - the process is different in some of the stores ... e.g. at the IKEA I visit it isn't self serve - you order in kitchens and then your order is "picked" and ready for pickup downstairs later - could be hours later depending on how big the order is and how busy they are ... in some stores its' self serve ...

they typically have the cabinet boxes in stock - but the stores do not stock all door styles ... what door style are you purchasing ? some have to be ordered in advance ... also sometimes the interiors are sold out and might also need to be special ordered.

I think the easiest way to find out is to fill in and FAX an order form to IKEA - and get a draft order ... that will show you how each cabinet morphs into many part numbers ... the IKEA kitchens person can tell you what's in stock at that moment in time and if you have anything that will not be able to be purchased at that time.

We're getting the Adel Medium Brown. I guess we'll just see what happens, since it would probably take two car trips if they had everything in stock anyway. I like the idea of labeling each box too. That will be easier for my installer when he has to look at them in a week or so.
