I thought I understood that IKEA Houston was more expensive for certain items because it is a franchise store. I have the kitchen catalog and general catalog from the IKEA Houston store. The prices in these catalogs matched the prices I saw in the store on items and are higher on many items than the prices on http://www.ikea.com
I just found the price list here on Ikea Fans under the Door Styles page and compared it to my Ikea Houston Kitchen catalog and it is exactly the same. I then compared the price list on Ikea Fans to the prices listed on http://www.ikea.com and the prices on http://www.ikea.com are cheaper. I am confused.
Which price list is correct for which store?
Is the price list on the Door Styles page a price list for Ikea Houston?
Anyone that has purchased cabinets at Ikea Houston, did the prices match the Ikea Houston catalogs or did they match the ww.ikea.com site prices because they are different?
Anyone who has purchased cabinets from other Ikea stores(non-franchise), did the prices match the price list on the door styles page or did they match the ones on http://www.ikea.com?
I am trying to figure out whether it will be worth it for us to drive to Frisco instead of Houston to purchase our cabinets of if we are just going to have to pay more because it is more convenient to go to Houston. :?
I used the tall pantry cabinet HPO1588 as a comparison and it seemed to be about $32 more per cabinet on this tall cabinet regardless of door style. The 4 drawer cabinet B4D36 seemed to be about $6 more.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Laura

I think that Houston, San Diego and Seattle put that bit of legalese in there to reserve their right to have differing prices, but in reality, the prices are largely the same. As far as I can tell, there is no significant difference between the prices at Houston or San Diego and the regular catalog (I did find small differences, i.e. $1 here, $1 there...up to $50 on an appliance, but nothing outrageous). Don't know for sure about Seattle, as I haven't seen their catalog, but I believe that they all honor the prices in their catalogs, even if the internet prices are higher.

For clarity's sake: IKEA Houston, IKEA San Diego and IKEA Seattle are owned by a franchise and they each publish their own Kitchen catalogs which look essentially the same (despite a few minor $ differences) as the IKEA Kitchen catalogs that are distributed throughout the rest of the United States. The price list posted on the Door Styles page is that of IKEA at large, in US Dollars.

I know that someone here had the same problem a while back and investigated...maybe it was Tim and Joyce? Hopefully he/she will pop in and clarify.

Susan

Laura,

Hi from another Texan! We are in the Austin area and will be using the Houston, TX store for our IKEA kitchen (set to be started in a few weeks).

Jomoncon commented in a post on the forum a few weeks ago that she found the Houston prices the same.

To quote her post -
"I just remembered something else i wanted to pass along. The IKEA site says that Prices may vary at IKEA Houston, IKEA San Diego, or IKEA Seattle. Well, the Houston prices were exactly the same as on line & in the catalog. Not one penny difference."

I have a Houston catalog and one from outside of Houston and found all the prices the same except for one kitchen . . . one of the ultra modern styles if I remember correctly.

Hope that helps,
G.

Thanks for the info that the prices are closer than I thought.
I know my brother and his fiance (who live in Austin) found out after they drove to Houston and bought a couple PAX wardrobes that if they had driven to Frisco instead that they would have saved over $150 because the PAX wardrobes were more expensive in Houston.
They were only buying a couple wardrobes (and my brother is going to make the doors so this was just the cabinets - no doors) so he was telling me to look into the price differences between Houston and Frisco on the kitchen cabinets before we order.
We are still trying to figure out the new layout. I posted a while back and got a few ideas and then got sidetrcked for a couple weeks. I will try to figure out how to post with my measurements now.
It sounds like the different stores are closer in price on kitchen cabinets than they are on PAX.

I also learned from my brother that if there are sales/specials going on in Houston they are not the same in Frisco and vice versa. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks.
Laura

Hi Gwen! I is always nice to find fellow Texans!

The Seattle store seems to charge the same on a lot of kitchen stuff, but more than website prices for others. I seem to recall differences of $5 on a drawer, $10 on a cabinet, that sort of thing. I just had to quit wondering about it because I don't have a choice to go to another Ikea, and I knew even the higher priced stuff would be a bargain!

Re: IKEA Houston versus other IKEA stores

Hey, from another Texan! I have no idea about differing prices between IKEA stores. I only have access to one and it is only 30 minutes drive for me since I live in Clear Lake. I pretty much don't worry about prices because they are such a great deal and the quality is so good. Hope this helps!
