Problem with Poang

We have 2 Poangs, bought a few months apart. They're both about a year old. The problem is that one of the frames flexes far more than the other, and really isn't comfortable. It just doesn't provide enough back support.

Any ideas if the Dallas/ Frisco IKEA would exchange the weak one for a new frame?

Re: Problem with Poang

Poang have a 25 year warranty.

25 year warranty
What is covered:
This limited warranty covers the POANG armchair and footstool frames against defects in material and workmanship in the following components: layer-glued frame, supporting fabric and fittings. This limited warranty applies to domestic use only.

What is not covered:
This limited warranty does not cover the POANG cushions, covers, children's chair or nesting tables. Click General Conditions below for more information.

How long does the coverage last?
This limited warranty is valid for 25 years from the date of purchase by the original purchaser.

There are general conditions - you can check the website or back of the catalog. Basically you have to have your original receipt. Then take the defective product to your nearest IKEA returns department and make your case. No guarantees though - its always based on a managers inspection.

Re: Problem with Poang

I'd be curious to know about the chairs themselves.

Are they the same color?

Somewhere on the frame should be a small identifying sticker, with a few series of numbers. One is a 5 digit number that is the manufacturer's code and identifies the factory; the other is a 4 digit code that is the date stamp and identifies the year and week the piece was made.

Would you mind posting those numbers?

Good luck with the exchange.

Re: Problem with Poang

Thanks IKEA Girl! That's good to know.

Chuck, both chairs are medium brown. The numbers are
13755 0742 or D742 on the good chair
14080 0826-03 on the problem chair

Per DH , the problem chair was the 2nd purchase.

I did run across the receipt the other day, so will try to exchange.

Re: Problem with Poang

OK, so the 2 chairs were made by different suppliers (I don't know the codes for the various suppliers, but maybe some of our co-working members might have that information - ping: Macks???), about 6 months apart. The "good" chair was made in mid-October 2007 (07 = 2007, 42 = week #42 of that year), and the one you're having trouble with was made on June 25, 2008 (08 = 20089, 26-03 = the 3rd day of week 26, or June 25).

My guess is that either there was a bad batch (or a problem specific to your chair), or the different time and place of manufacture resulted in a dip in the overall quality of the product.

Since you have your receipt, I'd think you'd be able to get an exchange of the bad chair for a new one. You might want to test drive the new one, though, before you leave the store.
