Paramus vs Elizabeth NJ store

This will be our first Ikea experience and we're not sure if there is a difference between the stores.

We live 4 - 4.5 hours away. We have never seen Ikea in person, so we are going to "just look". But if we think the items we like online will work, we will probably buy half the items we need at that time.

Does one store have a better inventory? We are looking for everything to furnish three bedrooms (wardrobes, beds, bookcases, chairs, accessories).

Thanks

Re: Paramus vs Elizabeth NJ store

I think that Paramus is a little smaller, although the parking situation is a lot easier because of that (e.g., you can take the cart to the car instead of having to go drive into the special unloading section for a short period of time after your purchase). Main thing in favor of Elizabeth is that they have lower sales tax, which for us was a savings of a couple hundred dollars or so.

Re: Paramus vs Elizabeth NJ store

Paramus is definitely less crowded, parking is easier and IME, they usually have more things in stock at any given time than Elizabeth (which always seems to be "sold out" of many many items every time I go).

Displays I think are similar, but I haven't been to Elizabeth in more than a year so I can't really say more about that.

In any case, if you go to Paramus and decide you want to buy stuff with the lower tax, or if you go to Elizabeth and they're sold out of stuff, it's really not that far between the two stores, relatively speaking since you're driving 4-5 hours anyway. It's probably a 30-45 minute drive from one to the other, longer with traffic obviously.

If it's your very first IKEA experience, I'd probably want to go to Paramus, so as not to be completely overwhelmed. Of course, YMMV . You may thrive on chaos. (Me, I hate crowds and amusement-park-type experiences! It's always a zoo at Elizabeth.)

Thanks for the responses.

I think we're going to try Paramus . It is closer and we'd prefer smaller/less crowded. We're going to have to make two trips anyway, so we'll just decide which store for the second trip based on which one has the items we need in stock.

Re: Paramus vs Elizabeth NJ store

I've been a to a stores in a few states. I recently went to the Paramus store. I really liked the layout as it was very easy to navigate. I made a purchase and was amazed at how quickly and smoothly their pick up process was (and that was on a holiday weekend).

Ditto. Meant to mention that. I've had to wait up to 3 hrs to pick up at Elizabeth on a boring weekday morning. Paramus is always much faster.
