Thumbs up Re: Compiling Info on Stores for NEW Feature! - Boucherville, QC

1. Store name/location - IKEA Boucherville, QC - 586 Rue De Touraine exit 95 off Auto20.

I came from Northern Vermont so I take Auto10 Ouest (West) towards Montreal and cut up Auto30 Est (East) to Auto20 Ouest (West) and it's a few km to Ikea, you see the enormous blue building on the right and its a snap to get there. You also may pass a HUGE Ikea distribution center right off Auto30 that must be the main Canadian distribution center.

2. Phone numbers: (450) 449-6755

3. Best time/day to visit - I just went there for the first time and arrived at 10am on a Saturday morning, store was average busy until I left at 3pm

4. Best parking place! Family parking right in front of the store

5. Avg. time allowed for Smaland deposits. - I did not drop off

6. Shortcuts to Kitchens - Straight up the escalator and cut through couches into the middle of the kitchen area

7. How to get to AS-IS - AS-IS is located near checkout and returns, there is a door next to Smaland into the main first floor area, go left to the checkout area and "Tel Quel" (As-Is) is right in front of you.

8. Other tips/tricks - My first trip there and only bought a few small things and a few sample doors so not too many tricks

Re: Compiling Info on Stores for NEW Feature!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've finally gotten caught up on the store directory...well, almost. We have new entries for Logan, Queensland Australia; Boucherville, Quebec Canada; Conshohocken, PA US; and Hicksville / Long Island, NY US. We also have updates for Burbank, Coquitlam, New Haven and Amsterdam.

Over the next several days (or hours if I can focus), I'll be updating all the entries with Sales Tax Rates and GPS Coordinates, and at some point, I'll be adding an entry for every store worldwide with basic information.

We still need your input to gather the personalized detailed information that makes this Store Directory as useful as it is! Please take a look at the directory and see if your store is listed (if not, check the first post in this thread for a list of questions to answer) and if there's any bit of information you can contribute. At the very least, rate and comment on your store!

Thanks again to everyone - this effort would not have produced the results it has without the participation of many, many IKEAFANS!

Re: Compiling Info on Stores for NEW Feature!

Since the few folks who are in the South Bay have not commented in ...

1. Store name/location

Carson, CA, USA

2. Don't worry about regular phone numbers ...

3. Best time/day to visit - also, times to avoid

Weekdays are good, though it can get crowded during the evening hours. It can get extremely crowded on the weekends, as this is a smaller store.

4. Best parking place!

Since the parking lot is shared with other stores, it's crowded everywhere. Just find a spot somewhat close to the store and deal with it.

5. Avg. time allowed for Smalland deposits.

N/A.

6. Shortcuts to Kitchens, etc.

Go up to the third floor, then proceed around the corner to the living room area. Immediately past the next wall is a shortcut straight to kitchens.

7. How to get to AS-IS

This one is somewhat buried, as it is closer to the beginning of the warehouse on the first floor. If coming from the Marketplace, proceed straight down the path and you'll be in AS-IS. If coming the backwards way from the cash registers, proceed backwards through the warehouse, make a right at the end, and go straight into the AS-IS.

8. Other tips/tricks, like I know in my store they can ring you up in Kitchens so you don't have to hoof it downstairs and then wait an hour and a half for Cash and Carry. What secrets do you know?

N/A.

For your store, list it if you know it!

1. Store name/location

Taastrup, Denmark

2. Don't worry about regular phone numbers - I can find those, but if you know the voice menu #'s to get directly to kitchens, work, store manager, etc. that would be great! Extensions for the Kitchen Expeditor or After Sales would be great info also. FAX #'s.

(+45) 70150909

3. Best time/day to visit - also, times to avoid

Best is wednesday afternoon, worst is friday afternoon and saturday.

4. Best parking place!

After the McDonalds, turn left... there are always parking places here.

5. Avg. time allowed for Smalland deposits.

1 hour on peak days, no maximum on non peak days

6. Shortcuts to Kitchens, etc.

2nd floor: Kitchen, Living Room, Dining Room
1st floor: Bedroom, Bath, Work, Childrens IKEA and restaurant
0th floor: markethall and self serve

7. How to get to AS-IS

just inside before entering the markethall, turn left through the hole in the wall to find the cash register. AS-IS is located on the far end of these.

8. Other tips/tricks, like I know in my store they can ring you up in Kitchens so you don't have to hoof it downstairs and then wait an hour and a half for Cash and Carry. What secrets do you know?

IKEA Taastrups bedroom department is the new model for all other bedroom departments worldwide. We just finished rebuilding it last week, and had a visit from all BA3 sales leaders from around the world on thursday. It is also the largest IKEA in denmark, and is a full range warehouse.

Please dig out business cards, notes...what ever you may have that will help you to contribute! Thanks in advance for your help on this!

Susan

Sorry, can't help there.
3. Best time/day to visit - also, times to avoid
Weekdays (except friday) until 16:00. Avoid evenings and weekends; Sunday is a nightmare.
4. Best parking place!
Ground level of the multistory park, on the inside
5. Avg. time allowed for Smalland deposits.
No limit
6. Shortcuts to Kitchens, etc.
Shortcuts are indicated in the exhibition area
7. How to get to AS-IS
Just before checkout to the left. The as-is dept has a large supply of OOP parts, just ask them and they will do their best to help you and usually it's free, too!
8. Other tips/tricks, like I know in my store they can ring you up in Kitchens so you don't have to hoof it downstairs and then wait an hour and a half for Cash and Carry. What secrets do you know?
  • This store has free internet access on the computers at the Family desk. When we had just arrived in France, we would go to Ikea to check our mail and keep in touch with the family
  • The Family dept has a large collection of books on interior design.
  • Right next to Ikea is a huge Castorama (sort of the french version of Home Depot) which carries an extensive range of DIY equipment and supplies.
Please dig out business cards, notes...what ever you may have that will help you to contribute! Thanks in advance for your help on this!

Re: Compiling Info on Stores for NEW Feature!

This is going to be woefully incomplete, sorry, I did not think to take the form nor did I take copious notes on my trip to Draper, Utah.

>1. Store name/location<
Draper, Utah, about an hour south of Salt Lake City. You can see the store from the freeway. Get the map form the main IKEA site.

>2. Numbers? <

Can't help you there.

>3. Best time/day to visit - also, times to avoid<

Hard to say without getting ethnic. The area is a bastion of the Latter Day Saints. We had great access near opening on Saturday and Sunday but the place got jammed starting about 1300. Things calmed down a bit around 1600.

>4. Best parking place! <

It's all in direct sun so there aren't any good ones unless you have handicap stickers. If you want to be able to find your car easily, park on the outside perimeter. There are some spaces on the east side of the building but they won't get shade until late in the afternoon. They may have been employee slots anyway.

>5. Avg. time allowed for Smalland deposits. <

No idea but I think it was an ignored feature of the store. Most of the children were screaming and careening around the showroom. It was a complete madhouse.

>6. Shortcuts to Kitchens, etc.<

Check the map. They're easy to find but they are NOT direct.

>7. How to get to AS-IS<

Far end of the checkout area, furthest away from the main entrance.
It was a mess and the merchandise was totally trashed, waste of time. A new store needs a few months to acquire old inventory and some decent returns.

>8. Other tips/tricks <

(My comparisons are based on the Seattle store as it appeared five years ago.) The Draper store is two levels, showrooms and restaurant are up, self-serve and checkout are down. The aisles are arrow and the whole place kinda feels squished, like they knew it wasn't gonna be big enough but they decided to stuff the whole catalog in there anyway. There is only one escalator up (NO escalator down, can you imagine?), one stairway, and one giant-sized elevator. If you load up on a bunch of stuff on the upper floor, you MUST ride the elevator down. It can be a long wait because of the line of strollers.
I had this from two witnesses but I find it difficult to believe: The ladies' restroom on the first floor is only a single handicap accessible stall. The men's rooms have water-free urinals.

I guess the food service and menu have changed dramatically since I was in the Seattle store so long ago. You're going to have a more satisfying meal elsewhere. The food at the Draper store is boringly American and bland but it's still fairly reasonably priced. The coffee is utterly and unimaginably horrid. Don't drink the coffee.

Re: Compiling Info on Stores for NEW Feature!

An addition about the Stoughton, MA store:

* They added a pager system, YIPPEE! Sign in and ask for a pager; you can wander through the store, and you have 10 minutes to respond before they give up on you.

* They now have a "three items or less" line in Kitchens! We used it today when we bought...well, three items! It was much quicker, and avoided all the lines from folks who were planning whole kitchens at a time.

Oh, Wow. Thanks for bringing this back to my attention. Sorry I missed your updates, Bogiesan! I think I've become terribly behind (or a terrible behind), but I promise to try to catch up next week. Thanks for the updates guys!

Draper Ut Ikea

>5. Avg. time allowed for Smalland deposits. <

No idea but I think it was an ignored feature of the store. Most of the children were screaming and careening around the showroom. It was a complete madhouse.

I've been to Draper a couple of times, and have to second what David said about Smalland. A couple of months after opening, it still doesn't seem to have caught on. I advise wearing kneepads to prevent stroller and toddler induced bruises, and maybe, earplugs too. It's pretty deafening!

Other than that, it seemed fine to me. I'd just visited the San Diego store, and Draper seemed fresher, better laid-out and organized. When I'd paid for my kitchen, I apparently looked pretty stunned to learn that I'd have at least an hour wait for it to be pulled, then would have to inventory it before packing it up and heading back to Idaho. The guy there offered us vouchers to go have dinner, which my husband turned down, having his heart set on sushi. I went to As-Is, which was a lot 'richer' than when Bogie was there, and when I got back, maybe 20 minutes later, the order was done and my husband was well into getting everything counted. Can't beat that service!

The only criticism I have is with the 30' of suspension rail I have for my 4'of wall cabinets. The kitchen Ikean had offered very little in the way of advise, but said, "Oh, I almost forgot the suspension rail," and I wasn't wise enough to pay much attention. Unless I discover that I need it for my tall pantry, I'll be going back to Draper with that, and to pick up a couple of other things, and will pay closer attention then.
