Do I need to disassemble entire dresser to replace one part?

We are assembling a Hemnes dresser. Just as my husband is tightening one of the cam locks, the wood splits. If this was on a piece that is facing the wall, no big deal, but this is right in the front where all can see.

I do believe that there is a defect in this piece of wood, as all the other locks did not cause this problem. We've also assembled many other IKEA products with no problems.

Can I just take back this one part? or will I have to disassemble the entire dresser and take back all of it? The store we go to is East Palo Alto in CA.

Hi

If the woods splits it is usually because the metal peg has been screwed in too tight which causes the cam to twist and split the wood.

You would need to speak to IKEA about how much they want back to replace. Over here it would just be the damaged bit but it is best to check first.

The US stores vary in their returns policies, so do as BRB said and call to check. Whatever way you go, be sure to have your receipt with you.
