I am 80% through with my ktichen and wanted to offer some information and advice about the Atlanta Ikea. I have had a pretty good experience in the store, but I have learned a few things I thought I might share.
1. If you are traveling from out of town, keep in mind that Atlanta traffic starts to get bad at about 3 pm in the afternoon on Interstate 75/85, which is right next to Ikea. It took me over 45 minutes to get home yesterday at 3:30 pm, and I live about 10 miles away. Ikea opens at 10 am, and morning rush hour is over by then, so the earlier in the day you go, the better your travel time will be.
2. Always sign the list in the kitchens area, even if you just need one thing. The Atlanta Ikeans are very deliberate about that list.
3. I haven't met any Atlanta Ikeans that were not helpful and knowledgeable. I did have an excellent experience with Jaydah. She was fast, helpful, and knew the products well. She was able to ask me questions about my order to insure that I got home with what I needed.
4. You can pay for your kitchen order in the kitchen's area. A copy of the order will be sent electronically to the furniture pick up area so that, theoretically, they can start pulling your order. But, I would recommend that you take your draft order down and give it to them yourself. Otherwise you are counting on them to check their printer, and if they are busy there is no telling how long that will take.
5. If you don't want to walk all the way through the marketplace (like when you are taking your draft order to the furniture pick up area) there is a short cut next to smalland. It's two double steel doors that aren't clearly marked, but they will put you out in the main lobby next to the escalator.
6. Your kitchen order has to be placed before 8 pm in order for the furniture pick up people to pull your order that night. If the order is placed after 8 pm you can pick it up the next day. I learned this the hard way. An Ikean had suggested that I come in after 7 pm to place my kitchen order because it is "dead" then. When I arrived at 7:20 pm I was told that it was too late to order. BUT, Jaydah gave it her best shot and my order was placed at 7:58 pm. Needless to say, I love her.
7. The Ikea cafe by the check out is still making hot cinnamon buns at 8:45 pm, but not coffee.
8. This isn't about Ikea, but I found a really good deal on granite countertops at Atlanta Intown Granite. My UBA TUBA granite was just 39.99 a square foot, which is the best deal in town as far as I can tell. They did the template on Monday of this week and then installed it on Friday. The website is very helpful, with prices and samples displayed. It's
www.atlantaintowngranite.com.
If anyone has questions about Atlanta's Ikea, I'd be glad to field them. I have been very happy with them. So far I have not had a single missing item or extra item, and only two door fronts have had to be returned for flaws. That is astounding considering the number of boxes I brought home.
Happy shopping,
Janice
