The episode of Hammer Heads on HGTV right now, Cooking from Scratch, is installing a new kitchen. They used unfinished wood cabinets that they stained and finished, but they also installed a DOMSJO sink in a non-IKEA cabinet!

They spent about 10 seconds of video showing how they modified the sink cabinet to install the Domsjo, but it shows it is possible to do so.

The episode will be re-run January 06, 2008 10:30 AM ET/PT on HGTV.

well, the domsjo is such a great deal i'm surprised more don't use it.

I suspect that too many people believe that IKEA is low quality and that you can only use IKEA sinks and faucets with IKEA cabinets - both of which we know are not true. That is one reason I was happy to see the Domsjo in a non-IKEA kitchen.

i often forget the stigma because it's just so absurd. i think of it more as a well kept secret

It's seems absurd because we know better, but to many, Ikea products means cheap products, as I poited out in a previous post regarding a Kullen dresser.

Bad news travels faster than good news; Indeed, some Ikea stuff is crappy or "you get what you pay for" (many of the low price leaders, some mid-priced stuff), some nicely priced for the quality (a vast majority of products), and some stuff a major bargain. However, folks aren't going to discern what amongst the 10k+ items what's great, what's good, what's OK and what's not ... and because someone had a bad experience and complained really loudly, they'll lump everything into that last catagory.

Then there's the whole price = quality fallacy aspect that many seem to automatically follow too. Again, many of us here know better ... but for those who follow such, they'll never be convinced that there are good products at Ikea.
