Newbie question on kitchen cabs
I just found this site and it's been very helpful for researching a potential kitchen update. At first I couldn't believe how affordable the cabinets were on the IKEA website, but then I saw the tab with doors...forgive me if this is a foolish question...but do you have to purchase cabinets and doors separately? Would IKEA style doors fit on "regular" cabinets? (I have 4 cabs with no doors and may just buy doors for now for budgetary reasons.) Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, too - BIG learning curve here! Thanks in advance!

Re: Newbie question on kitchen cabs
Hi OutOfOffice and welcome to IKEAFANS!!
The cabinet boxes come in white and birch finish and can be used with just about any doors you like (minor exceptions with Rubrik) . Even with the doors, I think you'll find that IKEA cabinets are very reasonable and high quality.
There are people who have used the IKEA doors on other cabinet boxes but they require some retrofitting that is not for the beginner...
Let us know if you have other questions!

Re: Newbie question on kitchen cabs
when you're looking at the website and seeing base cabinets there is a pull down menu with the various doorstyles. each time you pick one to look at you should see that the price changes, that is, indeed, the price of the cabinet with the hinge/legs/whatever included along with the door. (handles, toe kick and suspension rail not part of the price)

Re: Newbie question on kitchen cabs
Thanks, I understand now. Are the cabs and their various sizes/configurations typically in stock in the stores or do they need to be ordered? Since the doors probably won't fit my existing cabs, I'm thinking of replacing my upper cabs now and perhaps doing the floor cabs and countertops next year.
I have a very, very small kitchen and will use white cabs, which seem to be the least expensive style IKEA offers, so that's good news.

Re: Newbie question on kitchen cabs
I haven't heard of the boxes being out of stock, but some doors are harder to come by. Which white door are you interested in?

Re: Newbie question on kitchen cabs
very rare to have them run out of the boxes, especially the white. every store has different doorstyles which they try to fully stock, and do a really good job at most of the time, then the other doors are ordered from the distribution center.
so, like kelly asked, which white door? and (can't tell from this screen) do you say which ikea you go to?
it's not unheard of for folks to do a partial upgrade and then finish when budget permits. the cool thing about the white is that you can always upgrade to a different white door in the future if you like, without too much trouble (major exception being Adel white as it's a different color and finish completely. more on this later )

Re: Newbie question on kitchen cabs
ok, you go to Bolingbrook.... i'll see if i can figure out what they stock.
Arlig, Applad and Stat seem to all be stocked in Bollingbrook
ftr, Arlig is not available in 39" tall wall cabinets. Applad and Stat share the same finish and therefore the same cover panels, plinths, etc.

Re: Newbie question on kitchen cabs
Don't know yet what I'll go with - I'll probably want to see the different styles in person before I pick one. This is nothing more than an idea right now. But I've been scouring this site for days and love it! Thanks!
