Thanks Dave, I have a friend in K.C. who is a tile artist and she has done a very beautiful mural for behind my kitchen sink. She painted my sailboat in the gorgeous turquiose waters of the Bahamas. I just installed it and will send you a photo when it's grouted.
I spent many years in real estate sales. Bottom line no one cares where your cabinents came from. They are looking for style and age. If the cabs appear new and functional that is all that matters. Real estate value is total based on what similar house in similar condition sold for. Outside of HGTV no one really prices a house based on the cost or perceived cost of cabinents, window coverings etc. You will never see a competent appraiser deducting $10 or even $100 for a cheap kitchen tap, nor will you see a deduction for IKEA cabs vs custom made or any other brand. At most they will compare similar houses and may adjust down for poor condition and up for better than the comparable condition.
I agree with everything you said. But I also think that the potential buyer would be very pleased with the quality of IKEA. They don't care how much you paid for it - they're just glad it done.
How true- from time to time we cruise past our old house and it's very clear that the current owners have touched nothing. At all. Including weeds in the driveway.
The folks around here are different- we have to change things. Most people really do want it to be done. They want it done more than they want it done their way. So, clean, new, not too unusual on the stuff that's hard to change (in our old house, we had dark green paint on the walls. When the realtor sent over the "house dresser" she asked if we would consider painting out the "black walls." Black. Oh well, I thought, if she thinks they're black, other people will too. Sure! What color do you think they should be? Oh, I think they should be the color of liver! Okey dokey I said, and liver sold in 3 days above ask. Whereas green had sat on the market. Those were the days.)
