I have been looking for a decent t.v. stand for my LR. I'm succumbing to temptation and putting a t.v. in there (where I have never had one) because, well, I'm tired of sitting in the messy playroom to watch t.v. I found a gray/white stained Leksvik stand like this:

for $100, in perfect condition. After purchasing it, I discovered it wouldn't fit in my car. Doh! So I had to take it apart at the "Inspection/Wrapping Area" while wearing a business suit and heels. To the amazement of the onlookers waiting for furniture pickup (some of whom appeared smug and doubtful at first), I had it smartly taken apart and loaded in my my car in 10 minutes flat, without so much as breaking a sweat. Little did they know I am lawyer-by-day, super-IKEA-cabinet-builder by night.

You GO, Paige! No major steals this time through, but we did pick up a few things. Problem is, house is getting full!

I got two Ensen bathroom sink faucets in the Baltimore store (White Marsh. MD) for $19.75 each---retail is $50!

I was going to buy them at full price anyway so I was especially thrilled.

They still had a few left on August 2 if anyone is interested. The price labels say they are damaged but I couldn't find a thing wrong with them.

My "as is" room bargains include:

Pax doors in periwinkle blue (discontinued in 2000 I think) bought 4@ $10 ea. Went home & designed my computer armoire and tall file/ storage cabinet to have my boss make for me. Incorporated 2 as armoire doors and two as side panels for the file cabinet. Went back for more. They were down to $3 ea. Bought all that they had left, (6 or 7) plus two sets of 19" drawer fronts. They've been moved twice since then and now I am finally going to use (some of)them: Replacing destroyed Techline armoires with Pax...and I already have my doors. Woopie! Also incorporated in my previous office a series of bath cabinets that had the same blue colored doors . Medicine cabinets were great for sewing supplies and I used med. cab doors on a base cabinet my boss made. My new bathroom will use some of these cabinets plus a 19" Pax box, with the drawer fronts purchased 6 years ago.

WhiteNumerar type counter tops in 4' and 6' lengths at $5 and $10 each purchased in 2002. Presently in storageat my mountain cottage. Once I retire there (tenants are gone) I have my new counters for my tiny kitchen.

A large pallet of wood that I watched then roll out onto the floor: about 200 lin feet of 1X3 pine lumber and 186 lin ft of primed white chair rail for $20. Thought I would put up chair rail in my cottage so I put my foot on the pallet and yelled, "Sold! Now who wants the lumber for $10?"Sold it within minutes. I got 186 feet of chair rail for $10! Never used it, but sold it at a yard sale for $100 Ha!

Brought my dearest friend to Ikea for the first time. She was skeptical, but the "as-is" room converted her. She got a $150+ rug for about $30.

Most of the time, however, the markdowns are only 30% off of list. I need at least 50% off to evern think about buying anything in that room. I check it out every visit just to see what I can find.

No cinammon rolls for me....I head straight for the frozen yogurt.

I love As-Is! Last couple of times, we amassed several of our necessary base cabinet boxes in birch for about 70 bucks including corner cabinet (37 x 37), two 18's", a 30", a 21" (we won't need, but can use in my studio, possibly...) a 24" over-the-fridge cab, and a 12". We also scored a brand new stainless dishwasher (list $399) for $200!!

I've also found a poang chair for $36, a Hemnes chest of drawers (slight crack on top) around $70. Over the years, too much to remember!

I'm a Cinnamon Bun gal, myself...

I think you might win with the dishwasher score!

Possibly stupid question: is the as-is section stocked at on any particular day? That is, is there a best time to score? Or is it just stocked as stuff is returned/falls off the shelf/get chewed on by toddlers?

My experience has been that it's stocked all day every day. Of course, I don't LIVE there, so I don't know for sure, but I've probably been there on every day of the week at various times, and it seems they're always bringing out new stuff.

That seems to be the case in my experience as well. I check back periodically while I'm there - especially on days like yesterday while waiting over an hour for my cash and carry cabinets...

YES!!! that's right. Got all the rest of my cabs and their innards. YAY!

(I'm being way restrained considering how p-s-y-c-h-e-d I am)(these are the closest I could find to the emotion...)

I'll start a progress blog soon, I promise.
