Anyone figure out where the AS-IS stuff comes from? I know some of it is displays, but where does the rest of the stuff come from? I know that I've had the experience of IKEA absolutely positively not taking something back that was broken in the box (very disappointing), but if that's policy, where's the AS-IS stuff come from (or did I get a bad return clerk?)
The stuff comes from returns and displays... we returned a door after figuring out that it was slightly warped on Saturday... We have had it installed including the handle for a while now but thought it was in need of a hinge adjustment. We returned it and they took it with no issues.
While I was trying to figure out if we could fit the new Liatorp in the car, DH was over at the cabinet As-is section and found the door that we returned already there for $3. We re-bought it... I have no idea what we'll do with it as it truly is warped but we have it. (I feel guilty too for some reason)

I had purchased a pantry cabinet a couple years ago but never installed it due to my ceiling height being 83 1/2" tall. I figured out how to use it and so decided to takie it out of storage. Leaned a side panel against a fence and "Boom" a gust of wind hit it, knocking it into my car (dent) and to the ground in two pieces. What do you do with a pantry missing one side panel? You go to the "as is" room.
This past weekend I asked if they ever have a side to a 24" deep pantry? None were on the floor, but the Ikean looked inside there "behind the scenes" area. A few minutes later I had my side panel....for only $10.
Lesson learned: If you need a particular part and don't see it , ask if they have one in back. You may get lucky like I did.
While there I also bought a black Billy Bookcase for 1/2 price. Two scratched areas about the size of a quarter each made someone return it. I'll just use a black Sharpie to color it in.
The as-is room had lots of appliances (wall ovens, refrigerators, etc.), sinks (including a porcelain one for $30...it was pretty much above my head so I couldn't see if there was any damage to it), and about 40 applad doors (boxed) in a blueish gray color.
About 3 weeks ago I scored a set of Radium track lights for $30 - 50% off the list price. To put a cherry on top, since the box was opened I saw the 5 bulbs for the lights were taped on top - but imagine my surprise when I opened the box & found another 5 bulbs inside! Score!
I've also had the experience of returning a cabinet door in the morning & then seeing it out in the AS-IS room when I came back around (for a double check - I always start in the AS-IS room & then shop... you never know what they will put in there!)

Check your local AS-IS room for the older version of the 12" pullout (if you want/need a set). Costa Meas Ca has them for $5, regular price over $60. Best yet, they actually have the correct template packed inside.
Went to Ikea Burbank yesterday...needed more Kassett boxes for my office. Found out the smaller sizes were being discontinued. The 12 1/4 X 6 1/2 X 6 were sold out in white which is a size & color I needed. I grabbed the samples off the shelf and a cart and proceeded upstairs to the showroom. Went all around the floor scanning for the boxes...found 8 more. Picked out the best looking 6 and proceeded to the As-Is dept. Got the guy there to mark them all down to $1.50 each (clearance was $4.99 for 2/pack) and I don't have to put them together. .
Went over the Freeway to The Home Store (or whatever that Sear's designer store is called). Found a white Jenn Aire trash compactor demo marked down from $579 to $211. It's missing its key, but that should be easy to buy from Jenn Aire. My bargain appliance purchases are now complete: white Kitchen Aide slide in range and micro hood <$400, Jenn Aire SS dishwasher <$110 and now my compactor. I'm a happy camper.
I picked up another Adel Medium Brown cabinet door for...
Ten cents!
I did a bad bad thing....there was a full set of four Liljestad(sp) drawer fronts there for ten cents each. I bought ONE. Just wanted to check the color for a possible new wet bar cabinet in the family room.
It dawned on me later that some poor person will get all excited when they see the remaining doors, but then...that the...there's only three of em!
well, demi if someone comes on searching for a single to complete the set we know where to point!
This weekend I got my sister (darn wish it was for me) an 8ft numerar Oak (the thick yummy one) counter for $20, list is $169 Quite pleased with that one!
