Re: Fab Finds in the AS-IS room

For a future extension of my PAX wardrobe I found twice a KOMPLEMENT birch drawer (50x58x16cm) for 5 euro each (normal 22 euro each).
Another interesting found was a nearly 2 1/2 meter oak countertop for 40% less, but there was no need for me in the near future to buy this now. And taking it with me on a bike and storing for an unknown time is not very practical.

Re: Fab Finds in the AS-IS room

Has anybody had any luck with asking your local IKEA when they might be taking down a display, like a kitchen, and replacing it with a new one? I want the Adel MB, and I keep hoping to find a bunch of the doors in AS-IS. It would help to find out if and when one of those kitchens would be taken down.

Thanks,

Re: Fab Finds in the AS-IS room

Not so much in asking, but just noticing when a particular showroom is curtained or taped off. Just about everything used there will show up in AS-IS.

Several months ago, a fellow AS-IS regular at my local store here picked up just about everything from the showroom entrance display. Raw cabinets were $10-15, drawers were $4, and doors were $2. He had 5 carts loaded up ... and in his words, was about 70% of what he needed to redo his kitchen yet again.

That said, it was a rare occasion ... they usually get priced with all the components already at 50% off.

YMMV ... all stores differ in their pricing strategies.

of course these are the best ones. lots of misc. I think Portlanders are still not sure of IKEA or we would have more on this forum.
Hi from a half Portlander (Work in Portland and live in Vancouver)
Good deals! I should spend more time in As-is room ...

It's not that people are unsure about IKEA. People just haven't had chance to be a pro yet.

Re: Fab Finds in the AS-IS room

Hi back. Actually its work in Portland and live on the Washington side too. IKEA tore down the huge kitchen display that was up by the registers on the 14th after closing. I got all but 3 pces of it when IKEA opened at 10 on the 15th. Approx $250 but the drawers, all the rationelle extras, Applad drawer fronts, and the new hardware ?? name, were all in place and not removed. I am surprised that more people haven't discovered the as is considering how many went up to Seattle to get stuff. Portlands as-is is till proced based on who is doing it but it is at least 31% if not 50% whereas Seattle starts at 20-25% and thier prices are somewhat higher on specific stuff. I managed to get billy BYOM doors and hinges for $12 instead of $100 for a set.

I usually try to go at least 4x per week at different times and watch $$ to see what is still there after 1 wk or I ask the crew if this is the final price.

Re: Fab Finds in the AS-IS room

Relatively speaking, it was spendy morning ... (2) Malm bedside tables in medium brown for $15/ea. Now all I need is a queen sized Malm MB bed (well, just the head and footboards, as I have side rails already) to mount it to so I can get rid of my Hopen bed.

I did pass on some Tromso parts I had on my cart; another who came after me was buying up a lot of the pieces, and truth be told, I didn't need 'em that badly. There was certainly enough to have at least built out the lower level (for about $3 total!)

How did you get $100 set for $12?
Most stuffs are only 31% off...

It was most likely priced with the wood for the handyperson's corner. That's where I bought my Billy doors (2 Byom, 1 Morebo) ... and I don't even have a Billy bookcase yet!

Re: Fab Finds in the AS-IS room

It depends on who has the pricing gun.

2 BYOM each 4.99 then 6 sets of hinges for $2 total. Later I got 2 more BYOM for 34.50 each and hinges for $12. So for two sets of BYOM doors they came to approx $40 as set instead of $100 a set. Still a great savings.

Today I got the Full MALM in Birch for 50% off . Only a scratch onthe headboard that won't show anyway and the rest of the boxes unopened. If you wait long enough and go often everything you need will filter through as-is.

I am sure you can custom make some if you really want to.
I will keep my eyes open next time!
