Please ignore this message if someone has already mention this. I noticed in the new catalog the prices for kitchen cabinets have increased by about 10% (here in Canada). I was curious and compared to the US prices, and a quick look showed 5% (to 30!) more for us Canadians, our dollar being very close the US these days, the difference is remarkable.

I am wondering if anyone else has thoughts on this...

And from reading other threads, how does one keep track of the models that are being discontinued (or likely to become), are coming back, are hard to get (back order), ...

It is a big ouch that Canadians still pay a premium, even though the dollar has caught up to (or at one poit, surpassed) the US dollar. Perhaps a road trip down to the States is in order.

The catalog is often clue as to which styles are going to be discontinued ... if it was in last year's and isn't in this year's, AND still on the shelf at the local Ikea, expect it to be discontinued during the year.

That said, the catalog sometimes accomodates for production problems too ... Arlig beech, Arlig medium brown, and Nexus black-brown come to mind, as they exist, but production issues have held them back.

Thanks for the reply Narf, I doubt I will go the States to shop Ikea... price differences are not only on Ikea products (I have yet to find products that are cheaper here...). Anyway, I guess I should soon make the jump and get that Ikea kitchen done before next catalog.

My choice of favorite cabinets sways pretty much everytime I see a great kitchen example.

One way is to read/post at IKEAFANS.com! It seems even the people who work at IKEA sometimes don't know. There are lots of people here checking in with the most current information (and rumors) and our admins have some contacts in corporate and sometimes get info that way.
