Discuss Vika Gruvan desk top - legs? on IKEAFANS.com. We're Personalizing the IKEA Experience. Vika Gruvan desk top - legs? - PAX units, Billy bookcases, Ektorp sofas, Effektiv office furniture. Any and all IKEA, inside and out!.
I bought a Vika Gruvan desk top. It's the perfect desk for me, as I'm a scrapbooker can hide my papers under the glass where my cats won't sleep on them when I'm gone, but still leave it out for glue to dry, etc..
I bought the Vika Curry legs to go with it. Sadly, when I got the stuff home and opened the box, the packaging said I can't use those legs with that desktop. Wish I'd known - the sign in the store said you could use any legs with any desk.
Anyway, my style is mid-century and minimalist. I'm not crazy about the two sets of legs that I find will go with it, considering what I want to do with the rest of the room.
Does anybody have any creative suggestions for something else I can use as a base? I've been trying to find just file cabinets to use as a base, but even that is hard - I've been everywhere and nobody has them in white! And, I'm sure sure about the weight limits, etc.
Thanks for any creativity vibes you can send my way.
WHY can't the curry be used? i thought the bottom of the desk was mdf or something like it... is there a reason on the bottom of the desk that the curry wouldn't fit?
sorry to sound so shocked, but that is the combination i planned to use.

what 2 types did they say you can use?
According to the directions (pictorial) you can use the trestle legs (Vika Artur) and the ones with the storage (Vika Annafors) but there is a photo on the instructions with a picture of the Gruvan desk top with the curry legs and a big X through it.
I assume it's not stable with the curry legs.
It's frustrating as the store is not close to me and there was nothing in there indicating I couldn't use those legs. And, because the whole system is called Vika ...well, you know.
I'll have to make a 25 mile trip to return them and get something new. So, I wanted a creative solution that I could do now.
I suppose that I could just drill it in anyway, but with two big dogs, kids and a clumsy husband, not to mention a glass top, stability is important to me.
If you find anything out, let me know. It seems very clear from the instructions that they don't want you to use these legs with this desktop.
is the desk going to be up against a wall? if so, why not just cleat it in the back in addition to the curry legs? that will give more stability and also security.

I have been thinking it would be up against a window.
But, that's not a bad idea. I'll have to see if that'll work in my room, thanks.
nope, not reading it wrong. i figure that because of the double layer that it just can't support it... the cleat would probably work... course i haven't done it (yet)
