Discuss Leksvik chest of 4 drawers - Very confused! on IKEAFANS.com. We're Personalizing the IKEA Experience. Leksvik chest of 4 drawers - Very confused! - PAX units, Billy bookcases, Ektorp sofas, Effektiv office furniture. Any and all IKEA, inside and out!.
The problem I’m having is that a long piece of wood (noted in step 2 of the instructions which makes up the wood stop at the top of the drawers) seems to be not in my box, however, there is another piece of wood which looks similar but doesn't have the big holes to tighten the screws. I made a right mess of the wood trying to hammer home some plugs and I'm pretty sure it's the wrong piece of wood.
I've just been back to the store to change my whole box and the same piece of wood has appeared again!..
I was wondering if anyone else has ever built these drawers and got confused by this piece of wood?

Sorry to hear of your predicament- I'm not familiar with this particular item- however, we have some very knowledgeable folks here...anyone genius with the Leksvik??
Hardly a Leksvik genius, but I do assemble this stuff for a living, which I wouldn't be doing if I were a genius, so I am familiar with the Leksvik line and this piece.
In any case, you should have 5 pieces of wood that look like they are the same. If you examine them closely, however, you'll find you have three different pieces - 3 of one kind, and 1 each of another two.
The set of three will be exactly the same - shape, size, color, holes, etc. These are three "stringers " that run from side to side, two at the top (front and back) and the third on the bottom at the front. Two of these pieces are shown in Steps 7&8; the third one appears in Step 9, with the finger pointing at it.
There will be a single piece that is approximately the same size and shape as the three stringers, above, but it will NOT have a hole in the middle of its wide face, and will be uncolored - a natural pine. This piece is another stringer, but goes on the bottom in the back; it is shown in Step 9, with the arrow pointing at it.
Finally, you'll have the top piece which seems to be troubling you so. It is the same color and approximately the same size as the first three stringers, and has a similar shape and hole pattern as them, but with THREE key differences: 1) one of its thin edges is flat and one is rounded; 2) it has no hole in its face; and 3) it has two small holes in its narrow, flat surface.
I hope that helps.

Thanks for your speedy reply.
I think the piece of wood in step two is definitely wrong then. I have the other 4 stringers - Three of the stringers are a light colour with holes in the middle where the 4th is darker with no hole but is rounded on one edge.
I have another darker piece of wood left over which is rounded on one edge and slightly wider than the stringers, but this only has one hole on its flat side edge which is located right in the centre (not two at each end as pictured on the diagram on step2) it also is missing the two screw tightening holes which the four stringers all have on their sides (and is also pictured on step2)
Very strange that two boxes have both contained this mysterious piece of wood!
I have Just been down the store and I was told that every set of drawers (about 50 of them) have been delivered with this mysterious piece of wood! They offered me a 30% discount and tips on a fairly simple work around so I suppose all is not lost - A little cheesed off I have travelled 60 miles in my car all together in the last week trying to sort this!
Glad I could help, at least a little. It makes sense now as to why you were having the problem, and it was good of them to "step up" and help you out a little bit.
"Cheesed off", eh? I'll have to add that to my Anglo-American dictionary.

Take it to returns and cite a "Quality" issue. Ask them to have recovery check another box for you and determine if it's a "Quality" issue so they may notify distribution to look into the matter at a more preventative level. Also ask customer service to accommodate your travel and time expenses. Be polite and courteous, but be firm on what you expect and that you are willing to come to a compromise if necessary.
Not to rain on your parade here, 413, but you're about 3 days late to the dance, and it seems you didn't take the time to read all of Collymore's posts.
The issue was noted as being a "quality" problem, and Collymore was given a 30% on their purchase. You might also note that this took place on the "other side of the pond", so their procedures might be a little diffferent than they are here in the States.
