Krabb Mirror Help

Hi everyone, I'm new here (so please be nice lol)...Anyways I just got the Krabb Mirror from Ikea which was my first purchase from there...but I had no idea they didn't come with any screws/bolts to attach them ...I was hoping someone can tell me what these screws/bolts are called so I can go to HomeDepot, Lowes or Rona to get them...any help would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Krabb Mirror Help

Welcome to IKEAFANS, DBee.

Did you get the 4 pack or the single long piece? The four pack comes with some plastic fittings that you use to help with the hanging. What screws and other hardware you need depends on the construction of your wall, but you could most probably use some plastic anchors and 1 1/4" #8 screws.

I've never installed the single long piece, but I would think you could use some double faced foam tape to hang this - 3 or 4 pieces 6" wide and spaced evenly over the back of the mirror should do the trick.

Re: Krabb Mirror Help

Hi,

I am installing the same mirror, 2 of them, in my apartment. I started out by simply using 11/4" screws. But after reading Chuck's post, I think I would have to get the anchors, cos I doubt my walls are strong enough to hold the weight.

Chuck,
My apartment walls are pretty thin, I am not sure what material they are though. Would Plastic Anchors be good enough or do I need to get what they call Toggle Bolts or smthg? I am installing the mirrors horizontally. Could you or anyone else please advise?

Re: Krabb Mirror Help

I've installed the long mirror in the last several apartments I've lived in and have never had to use an anchor. They're really not that heavy and as long as they're out of the way and wont get tugged on they should stay up fine.

The double sided tape idea has some good points, not seeing the mounting clips makes them look pretty sharp, but when the day comes that you want to take it down you will most likely be looking at some minor damage to your wall and major damage to the mirror. This will depend on the thickness of the tape you use and your access to something thin and stiff to get behind the mirror and cut it free. That tape holds on really well.
