Is the new IKEA Sultan Laxeby a better slatted base?
I noticed a new slatted base at IKEA.com called the Sultan Laxeby. I searched IKEAFANS.com for "Laxeby" and there were no results.
I've read multiple discussions about IKEA slats making noise and falling off [1][2][3]. I have no experience with slats, but it seems that, unlike the other IKEA slats, the Laxeby has a wooden base to which the slats are attached. I'd appreciate it if someone more knowledgeable than I could view the photo of the Laxeby at IKEA.com and speculate as to whether this new slatted base might solve one or more of the problems that people have reported having with IKEA slats. Thanks.
Re: Is the new IKEA Sultan Laxeby a better slatted base?
We have the IKEA Sultan Laxeby in king size, which is two twin size laxebies connected to each other on a larger frame, I think. They don't make much noise -- there's a lot of rubber joints where the slats insert and attach to the wooden frame and so forth so there's not much wood-on-wood friction to hear. I can't speak for the old slats, but I can't help but think that these new rubber connector pieces help solve some of the issues encountered with the old pieces. Warning though: putting this thing together was a real hassle -- to get the ends of each slat into the rubber things. I got a few splinters before I realized I should be using gloves.

Hi, henrywei. Thanks for taking the time to share this info.
I'm as far from having tough, working man's hands as a guy can get, so I'll definitely make sure I have a pair of work gloves before I get a Sultan Laxeby.
Re: Is the new IKEA Sultan Laxeby a better slatted base?
Given the problems we have been having with the Malm King and the sultan liared where we also crash to the floor I am looking at the sultan laxeby. I know I can rig the current slats to work but it will involve some
diy
on my part. really bugs me that i would have top do this. The design on the bed slats is really bad. Not sure the laxeby will solve the design issue. I think only plywood might be able to do that.
Re: Is the new IKEA Sultan Laxeby a better slatted base?
I have it in Queen. We haven't had any noise issues and it is comfy. Assembly on the other hand was a real pain. Luckily I had my boyfriend help me out so it took half the time. Beware, it'll take a while.
Re: Is the new IKEA Sultan Laxeby a better slatted base?
i have a really bad dream with this slatted base, it becames in a nightmare. it is an item very heavy and the assembly is very tedious. but the real problem is that the slats were short and they didnt fit correct into the plastic piece. they were falling off every time.

The only base I can talk about personally is the Sultan Alsarp, which is the one we have on our son's bed. It's Awesome!
The sheer amount of storage that it makes available is incredible and as a 6-7 year old he's done a LOT of jumping and it's been dead solid. Good stuff...

Re: Is the new IKEA Sultan Laxeby a better slatted base?
It is fine, except for the assembly time. It was so hard to force each slat into the rubber end that it took me six hours to assemble this base. I do NOT recommend it.
Re: Is the new IKEA Sultan Laxeby a better slatted base?
Here's a tip: skip the step where you attach the second long rail. In the single (twin) bed size instructions this is step 3. After step 14 (i.e., all the slats have been installed) then execute step 3. Complete assembly with step 15. Much easier to install the slats this way!
BTW
, on the subject of the single bed version I found it did not fit initially into the Fjellse bed frame as the Sultan Laxeby was a bit too long. So I drilled out the outer corners at one end to shorten it. Annoying nonetheless!

I have an retro danish bed that has a center beam for support but the original slats kept falling through so I thought I would upgrade.
I've had the Queen sized Sultan Laxeby for about 1-1/2 years. Yes, putting it together takes literal blood, sweat and tears!
At first I loved it - nice support, no noise and no falling mattress!
However, the BIG problem is that it is concave right down the center of the slats and unfortunately as a result, the mattress bends right down the middle. Not good for the mattress or the sleepers.
Now I've got to find another solution because I want my mattress to last. Bummer.
