Our current bathroom vanity is 66" with one sink at the end a drawer in the middle with open space at the bottom and another cabinet at the wall. I am thinking I can use a 24" base cabinet at each end for 2 sinks with a 18" 4 drawer cabinet in between them. Would I need any filler space? Does any 24" base cabinet work or is there only certain ones that will work with sinks? This is all new to me and I am loving reading everything I can on this site - it's addicting. I appreciate any and all comments. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!

If you have exactly 66" between two walls the corners need to be square for 2 @ 24" and 1 @ 18" cabinets to fit. If one end is open you require 67" of space: 66" for the cabinets, 0.5" for a end cover panel and 0.5" for the countertop overhang. The finished height (using kitchen cabinets on regular legs) will be approx. 36", depth will be 25.5" - this is more than most vanities. All the 24" cabinets are the same, for a sink cabinet you have two choices re: fronts - two 12x30" doors or a 6" high fixed panel (to hide the sink) and two 12x24" doors.

One side is open so the 66" is flexible within a couple of inches - so that will work good. I like the idea of it being a little taller than the normal bathroom cabinets - so that is good. The depth will work but that is about the max we can go. So it sounds like it would work for us. Any suggestions on other configurations are welcomed. I'm not sure if we'll put in 2 sinks or not - dh wants to I'm not sure.

Also - I'd like white cabinets - any suggestions on which of these white styles are good for bathroom?

Wow, very in depth answer torrus, thanks!

Henny, as torrus said, welcome to the forums! In white, you've got Applad, Arlig, Stat, Lidingo, Adel and Abstrakt to choose from. Applad, Arlig and Abstrakt are all slab fronts and as such are pretty sleek and modern, with Abstrakt being the most of them all. Adel is kinda transitional...it can read as either contemporary or traditional depending on how it's treated. Stat and Lidingo are both pretty traditional styles, with Stat being a little more cottagey with the beadboard look, and Lidingo being pretty conservative raised panel style.

What's your fancy?

Susan

If you go for the single sink - 24" cabinet in the middle - you can use 21" cabinets on either side - one drawer at the top and wire baskets behind a door (21x24") below. That way (with the 6" panel on the sink cab.) the drawer line extends across the entire vanity.

Thanks so much for your responses. You guys are so helpful. We want to do our kitchen and bathroom. I thought it'd be a good idea to start with the bathroom and see how it all goes. Now to convince dh we need to make a trip to Schaumburg soon.

Don't forget to put in a small filler piece (like 3/4") between the end cabinet and the wall. You need this to be able to open the door properly.
