Discuss IKEA cab's for bath vanity on IKEAFANS.com. We're Personalizing the IKEA Experience. IKEA cab's for bath vanity - PAX units, Billy bookcases, Ektorp sofas, Effektiv office furniture. Any and all IKEA, inside and out!.
Here is a picture of one of the ideas I have to do inour bath remodel.
Unfortunately, I don't think I could use the over-the-frig 24" deep cab. because there wouldn't be enough support just with the wall rail system (wouldn't it need leg support of some kind?).
Plus, the cab's are not very high, and even with 8" legs, wouldn't be high enough. I was looking at the Effektiv Wall Cab's, but they're about the same height (but they do have the glass front doors).
For the sink area, I have 60 inches to work with. Only want one sink. The bathroom is only 5'6"wide, so I want the look of a raised vanity, or floating vanity to make it feel bigger. I want contemporary with a hint of asian.
The first question I have is the depth of the cabinets... I think that bathroom cabinets aren't as deep as kitchen cabs...

Yeah, I think bath cab's are generally 18" to 21" or so. The over the frig. cab. can be 24" deep. I think that would be fine as long as I keep underneath it open with or without legs to visually expand the room. I am wondering, though, whether something more shallow than normal would be bad? 15" perhaps? That is awfully small.
BTW, I read my drawings wrong and I have 75 inches in the sink area, not 60". I'm playing around with the kitchen planner to just get some kind of idea what it might look like. Even though I wouldn't use the horizontal wall cab's, I'm using those in the planner in the adel med. brown w/glass inserts to see what it may look like.
W definition
W is a wall cabinet designation, as in W18, can be a stand-in for Wide, or when followed by a / stands for With.
Why wouldn't the rail system be sturdy enough for a bathroom cabinet? I sure hope it is 'cuz that's what I'm using--a 24" over fridge cabinet. We bought it by mistake, and it's been too long now to return it. Providential anyway. I think you'd be surprisedat the load that the wall rail can carry.
As far as the height goes, I haven't QUITE gotten to that yet, but if you are planning on installing a vessel sink like the one in the picture, figure on dropping the top to several inches below normal vanity height. And I'm sure Ikea or somebody has comparable legs. Ask around here. I'm sure someone will come up with something.
legs like that? Sure. Capita legs come in 4", 6" and 8". Am I missing something? Nice inspiration shot by the way.

I didn't think about the fact that the vessel sink would be adding height on top of the cabinet.( Perhaps a bowl might be up to 6" deep or so???)
In that case, if a bowl is, say, 6" deep, I could install thecab. with the top at 23" (cab. I believe is about 15' high?) (23-15=8) which leaves 8" underneath for legs. This would put the 6" deep bowl at 30" high.Doesn't look as if the bowls are that deep though. I'll have to ponder this one.
What do you all think of 24" deep for the vanity vs. 15" deep?
And what do you think about the Effektiv cab's with glass inserts? (Too narrow?)
All three raised vessels that I have purchased are six inches deep. That said, I'm not dropping the counters because I think they're too low anyway. Also, there's a sideboard at Ikea that looks a lot like that picture. You probably wouldn't have to modifiy it. Oh, and a fifteen inch deep vanity would require you to find a really small sink. The standard for the ones like in the picture seems to be 16" in diameter.
Now that I look at the picture more closely,it looks like a Bondesideboard with a lack shelf unit on the end. In that case, the whole thing is $399 plus $69 plus whatever the legs cost.
I copied just the BONDE unit, but it's showing all the pictures.
Chabuchie -- I LOVE IT!! Thank you for telling me about it.
It's 76-3/4" long, 29-7/8" tall, but only 15-3/4" deep. Do you think I could put a birch wood counter on top of the unitthat would be deeper in the back? There will be walls on both ends, so no one would really know. I could put the vessel sink just to left of center, and the LACK shelving unit to the far right. PERFECT!!
Another question: My DH says I could talk to my aunt who is an artist, painter and casts her own ceramic houses, churchs and sells them worldwide. Wonder if she could cast a vessel bowl in whatever color/design I choose and pay her to do it.
My question would be:How would the ceramic hold up, or how it would look? I actually love the look of an opaque glass vessel bowl (perhaps pale blue/green with the birch).

DH usually means Dear Husband (or, pick your own adjective starting with D).
