I have a small room, and two big 21" CRTs. I'm looking to replace my desk and two junky bookshelves that I have 2 CRTs on (which are bowing, but the target special 10 year old cases are holding my 66lb monitors up great)

Can this Expedit bookcase be placed on it's side

What concern me is that the Height of the Expedit Desk is unlisted and the height of the Expedit Bookcase on it's side would be 31 3/8"

That raises another question, for those of you familiar with honeycomb engineering, can I put two 66LB monitors next to each other on something like this or would I break the bolts/dowels that hold the top (side) to the side (top)?

I've attached the assembly instructions for the EXPEDIT desk... the first potential issue I see is that the hardware they provide for attaching the desk to the shelf unit is sized to fit an interior shelf, not the exterior honeycomb structure.

As for weight limitations, I can't speak to that... but the height of the desk that I measured was about 29 3/4"... there are adjustable feet on it, but I'm not sure what kind of range they have.

We have the Expidit desk and 4x4 shelving set. I also thought of using the 2x4 instead but prefered the extra storage. The added height caused by the wider external side of the 2x4 can be acommodated by the adjustable feet but the attachment method not so easily. I imagine one would have to router out a portion of the side panel to make the attachment hardware fit in and then it probably won't look so hot- at least from the underside.
This is a mod I probably wouldn't try.
