Hi. We bought two cool Karsltad sofas for Christmas for our living room. We had no trouble putting them together and getting the slipcovers on. However, because we have two small children and some cats, we knew we would end up with stains, etc. Which is why we got this type of sofa. However, when when went to remove one of the slipcovers in January (yogurt accident), the zipper on the slipcover just popped right off. I brough the cover to Ikea and they very nicely gave us a new one.

However, last week, since things were getting kind of dingy, we thought we would dryclean all the covers. Once again, one of the zippers ripped off, and then we got a call from the drycleaners that one of the slipcovers that did come off...melted!

Has anyone had these problems? I searched the boards and didn't see anything about this. we weren't rough--we were just unzipping them. I do not look forward to driving back to Ikea with two 8-month old covers and having them replaced.

No one got back to me w/ similar experiences, but yesterday we took apart the couches (30 mins), took the upholstery back after 8 months, and the Ikea Returns person very politely took the material back (we showed them the broken zippers and the melted fabric), and replaced them with brand new grey washable fabric, which is a little like denim. Not only that, but the cost ended up less, and we got a $100 gift card. So I guess complaining was OK. It took another 90 mins to cover and reassemble everything (longer with kids, trust me), but now it looks great.

For anyone who might buy this, the salesperson recommended after washing to actually put the upholstery on while it was still damp, because it was too hard to do when completely dry. And since we have two kids, we'll probably be doing this a lot.

I'm glad you got it resolved satisfactorily! I find that with cotton slipcovers drying them until they are just slightly damp and then putting them on and letting them fully dry gives them a nice tight fit and smooths out the wrinkles beautifully. Enjoy your sofa!
