1. Can this be modified to have a low or footboard? DH is tall and his feet need to hang over the edge.
2. The description says that the sides can be adjusted to fit different sized mattresses. Does that mean it can be adjusted (with the appropriate bed base of course) to fit just a mattress platform style?
3. Also, what is clearance under the bed? Is it enough to fit some under-bed storage?

1. Yes, the footboard can be modified, but you really don't want to. To do so would involve some high end carpentry and finishing skills, as well as the tools to do this kind of work. If you need a bed with a low footbaord, Malm is a better alternative, though the colors and design are different from Hemnes.

2. There are four sets of holes on the Hemnes side rails, to be used with different bedding options and thicknesses. Dpending on your mattress, you would probably want to use the 1st or 2nd set of holes on the rails (and also on the head and footboards for the mid-beam brackets).

3. I don't know the exact measurement, but it is high enough to allow for underbed storage.

I am not familiar with terms like 'kingsize bed' and 'queensbed' etc. but, at least in The Netherlands, the Hemnes 2 persons bed is also available in a size for a 180 x 220 cm matress (or twice 90 x 220), the length is 20 cm longer than the standard length.

The clearance under the bed is 13 cm.
