I currently have in my home office two open bookcases that probably about the height of about 40 inches or so...give or take.
I hate having everything open so I can see the mess.

I was thinking what about using kitchen cabeint uppers and hang them from the wall to create a floating sort of look and then cover the tops with cover panels or some other sort of top to create a floating look?

i would use nexus bb to match what is in my kitchen which I am in the process of re doing

Why not? I've seen other threads with the same concept for buffets. The cabinets aren't that deep so you might want to check that. Cover panel for the sides? Also it may be extremely heavy fully loaded with books so maybe a plinth to get the weight to the floor?
