Computer workstation Fredrik is shaky, pls help

Hi,

I have the computer work station "Fredrik" ( IKEA | Computer workstations | Desktop solutions | FREDRIK | Computer work station) and I have the following problem: The table is a little shaky, when I try to write something on the desk it gets very annoying. How can I make the table less shaky?

1) By removing the four furniture feet, are they the cause of the shaking?

2) If I install the plate which connects both table legs more downward, will it then get more stable?

Thanks a lot

Welcome to IKEAFANS, Dezire.

Your Frederick desk shouldn't be shaky at all, except that if your floor isn't level, it might rock a bit from one corner to another.

If it really shakes, it's probably not tight enough. Double check your work, and, as you've suggested, make sure the grey metal cross pieces under the desktop are down as tight as they can be.

To make sure of this, use a rubber mallet and give the two pieces a good whack at either end. DON'T use a hammer, as you'll damage those pieces.

If it's a matter of the unit just rocking a bit, try to figure out which is the high end and remove one of the plastic pads from under the legs. Or you can use a some sort of wedge - a shim, folded piece of paper, etc. - to help the leveling process.

Re: Computer workstation Fredrik is shaky, pls help

Thanks a lot Chuck!

I have used a mechanic's level and the table seems to be even. I also have a carpeted floor so my question is if I really need those plastic pads under the legs, and if the table would not be more stable if i remove them all because the table will then sit on two lenghty legs and not on four pads.

Will the table become more stable, as you suggested, if I move the cross piece down a little, and if so by how much (like on the IKEA photo?). Currently, the cross piece is right under the table level (3cm under the table level).

Thanks a lot again

I don't think removing the plastic feet or moving the cross pieces will make much difference. The reason that it seems loose is because of the carpet. Just make sure that the cross piece is firmly in place, wherever you place it.
