I found this site on Google, and it has been an amazing resource for me.

My question is in regards to IKEA's spring, latex, and foam mattresses. Have you ever bought one? If so, which mattress did you buy, how long have you had it, and has it been a good mattress?

I am trying to decide on whether to buy an IKEA or Sealy mattress for my MALM full size bed frame.

Thanks for any tips!

I've plopped down on some random IKEA mattresses during my big kitchen shopping, but I wasn't clever enough to take note of which one or what I thought of them. However, I am going to buy a bed this Friday- along with a mattress...so if you can wait until then, I'll give a review.

I do know that most European children are conceived in IKEA beds, so they can't be all bad. I think the big thing is that European mattresses are more like a futon than a traditional American mattress. They rely on that mattress pad for added plushness and comfort.

LOL Lisa you're hilarious!

My kids both have the Sultan Fangebo mattresses with a mattress pad on top. DD has a foam pad, DS has a cotton pad because he sweats a lot. They are both very comfortable. I think the foam mattresses are better than the spring ones. We also have the Lycksele sofabed and that mattress is not as good as the Fangebo, but with a memory foam topper was quite comfortable for the two of us, we slept on it for an entire week while the inlaws were visiting and using our bedroom. Now, we're mattress snobs and would definitely have issues with a bad mattress, so I can tell you that at most you'll want a memory foam topper to be quite happy with the IKEA mattresses.

Thanks guys for the replies.

Right now, I'm thinking about getting a Sultan Fangebo (link below) mattress. Then I could buy a nice memory foam mattress pad to pair with it.

The Most common thing in Europe is just the bottom mattress and the pad. There are more and more who buy the foam mattress nowadays though.

Ikea´s mattresses is great if you consider the pricing. Not long ago the Sultan Hamnö finished right at the top along with mattresses costing more than three times as much.

I´m not sure about the US, but in Sweden there´s a 25 year warranty on all beds aswell.

I've been sleeping on an IKEA mattress and wooden platform framefor 10 months while the master bedroom is under renovation. It was my husband's bed before we got married. I don't know which style it is, but it's a regular inner spring. There is no box spring, just wooden slats from the frame, and no extra pad on top.

Let me just say it rocks. I only wish IKEA made CA King sized frames and beds 'cause I'd buy one to replace the one in the master in a heartbeat.

Hi. We have a Sultan springbox/mattress combo on legs to which we've added an Ikea pad to. We've had it for 3 years and it is good as new. I love high beds but I wasn't sure we should go all Ikea for our bedding. In the end it has been a good bed and we will complete it with an Ikea mattress and an even fluffier pad soon.
P.S. We also own a pullout bed with the wooden slats and the slats started to "lean into the middle" after a while.

On a related note---do not buy the pine bed slats. Spring for the more pricey hardwood ones. We've gone through several sets of pine slats and they come unstapled from the fabric tapes and the slats crack easily where there are big knots in the wood.

Re: IKEA mattresses? Your thoughts?

Keep in mind that "memory foam" doesn't actually keep it's shape for very long, despite marketing that says otherwise. Also, new memory foam often gives off weird smells (kind of like paint) so you end up having to air them out. I've since switched to regular polyester filled mattress toppers. They're dirt cheap if you can get them on sale, and you can just replace it when it loses it's fluffiness.

If you're going for long lasting comfort, latex is the way to go.
